US Entertainment books - all $9.99USD

Hi guys,

Not sure if it's been mentioned before, but if anyone's travelling to the US between now and November, all USA Entertainment books (like those ones they sell in Sydney and I assume the rest of Australia for ~$60) are now $9.99USD, with $5/book shipping to Australia.

After Mal made a kind offer in this thread I decided to look up the books, and when I noticed they were only $9.99USD, I decided to buy them myself. Ended up getting NYC and LA, shipped to Australia (in about 4 days) for under $38AUD. Too easy. Even if we use a Universal Studios voucher and buy a few coffees each (and maybe an IHOP voucher ), we'll be even.

I figured if anyone else is planning a long US trip it might come in handy. The vouchers generally expire on 1st Nov 2007.

Cheers,
- Febs.

This is not a bad offer Febs as you say. I found the website but can't see if they're valid until the end of November or the end of December?

Found it in tiny little print down the bottom.

Expiration Note: All 2007 books are valid through 11/01/2007
which I presume interprets to 1 November. Guess its not for me then.

Very good point Simongr, need to start reading a little better, I read as November (I'm there 24th Nov - 1st Dec).

I had a quick look on the website and if you're there a week, at full price (ie. USD$39.99 they appear to be good value).

I was just thinking, I might have to look at the 2008 one when it comes out because I'll be there in Nov and then will probably pop down for a couple of weekends when I'm in Montreal for four months next year.

Re: US Entertainment books - all $9.99USD

United States Entertainment books are quite interesting price wise. They are all over the shop at different times of the year. Promos abound including 2nd book for a few $ and free shipping etc depending on how well the books are selling.

Will hunt around and see if I can get a better deal than the $10+shipping going at the moment, but doubt that there will be one for a a month or two when they may go down to $5 or so. But they may not!

A couple of things to note about (US) Entertainment books:

A little bit useless as a single traveller. Most vouchers are "2for1" type deals, or places you wouldn't dream of eating at! Sometimes lthough there are some good ones like the AA 5% off voucher (one way or return trips only and many other conditions apply including not being able to put the purchase on hold to pay at the Indian call centre) and some good rental rates etc. I think though you can get reasonable value out of the book if somewhere for more than a few days. The books are searchable on the net, so you should be able to see if there are vouchers you think you'd be able to use.

They are shipped normally using DHL. Watch out if your address is a PO Box as you'll get a call from DHL asking for the correct address. Also, the book comes from "Entertainment Publications" (or something pretty similar). A workmate laughed when they signed for the book for me as they wondered exactly what type of "Entertainment Publication" comes in a brown envelope

Re: US Entertainment books - all $9.99USD

Just to add another note - if you google 'Entertainment Rate' you may find some reports of great hotel rates, below those from PL and cancellable and often earning points if you are lucky.

This saved us 50% on a week at the Kauai Hilton. ResortQuest properties in HI (at least before they were sold) also participated in the 50% off best available rate.

While HI may be an exception, there may be other places in the US also giving incredible 50% off rates. Worth a look!

Cheers
(I used one coupon, too, in a pub in HNL!)

Hi,
I tried ordering the San Fran, LA and NYC 2007 book, but when I entered my Sydney address, it changed the postal cost from the normal $5 / item to $17.50 per item for International Posting.
Can you help by telling how you got the discounted postal costs?
Thanks.

Just tried a dummy order for the same three books and I'm getting the same. Maybe the $5USD shipping was a mistake and they've now fixed it?

I can only suggest trying a combination of different orders...maybe one book at a time and see how that goes. I tried your order with only two books, but it was still $17.50USD/book.

Good luck.

Cheers,
- Febs.
