Power

I'm what they call a road warrior, I guess. I'm a writer and photographer and my laptop and digital camera and mobile phone go everywhere I do. Along with the dongles and rechargers.

A good portion of my time on the road is making sure that I've got everything charged up, with spare batteries. My recent RTW trip had me packing power adaptors for US, UK and European sockets, and when I was browsing through an electronics shop in Hong Kong airport, I found a clever little device that will let me toss them all away.

It's the Swiss Travel Products World Adaptor http://www.mobileplanet.com/product.asp?code=117161 and it has one end fitted with sockets for US, UK, European and Australian plugs, and the other end has push out prongs for the same four. There's a safety button so you can only push out one set of prongs at a time, eliminating short circuits.

It's a bit heavier and bulkier than any one adaptor, but not as much as all three together, and I found it supremely useful.

I also take along an Australian double adaptor, so I can plug the universal adaptor into the foreign socket, stick in the double adaptor and then stick two Aussie plugs at once into it.

I've had something similar for years. Only trouble is I keep losing them, or they get borrowed and not returned. Must remember to pick up some more.

I have a similar problem. I seem to have visited the shop opposite our KL office on many occasions to get a new one. They cost around MYR50 over there. Slightly different to the one linked above, but the same idea and function.

my friend has one of these and she swears by it. it really is the 'swiss army knife' of adaptors. hers is in a really nice case too.

it's a cool gadget.

I have the same adaptor, and suggested it the previous "travel adaptor" thread. to quote "I never leave home without it". No more searching for the right adaptor in the case, or making sure I have the right ones for where I am going. It's brilliant.
