What must one do for an exit row?

From my recollection the legroom in the bulkhead rows on the A330s and 747s is very restricted and I am not a tall person. I remember one time sitting in 23A and having cramps for a few hours after the getting off the flight. I have never had problems in a bulkhead aisle seat as most of the time I am able to stretch one or both legs in the aisle.

I am about 5'10 and dont really have too much of a problem. Though, I would never willingly sit in the A bulkhead seat as I think that is asking for trouble.

I also would not stick my legs or any other limb out in the aisle...for fear of losing said limbs to the cabin crew traffic!!! They are ruthless!!! I've often wondered if anyone experienced a slice of a finger or two from food service trolleys!!!

I have seen someone cop the trolley right into the kneecap - the guy didn't move it our of the way in time when it came towards him.

I somehow manage to stretch my legs out parallel to the bulkhead and never in the middle of the aisle. So far so good as far as the legs are concerned but my shoulders have taken a pounding when I am sitting in an aisle seat....

Can someone tell me if the seats that back onto the bulkhead, Row 56 in this layout http://www.qantas.com.au/infodetail/...2J32PY255Y.pdf Have room behind the seat to recline a bit. I realise you can't recline fully in these seats, but are they basically the same for most aircraft in regards to the space behind them?

They recline a bit. The bulkhead usually sticks out below seat-base level, with a scalloped area for the seat to recline (think of the letter h and the seat reclines over the top of it!). Usually, the seat doesnt recline as much as others. There may be a tiny bit of storage directly under the seat cushion.

Personally, i'd take a normal mid cabin seat before these ones unless you absolutely cant stand to have someone behind you. The seats are so high though, 12 hrs BNE-LAX and i couldnt even have told you if the people behind me were male or female, that's how little the ones behind were noticed. (Ones in front you notice b/c of reclining / climbing in and out).

Yer I am not to sure why but I slept the best I have ever slept in that seat (the window one). It must have something to do with being in a corner with no one behind me, no real idea but I loved it. I didn't even care that the seat couldn't go all the way back.

Coming back on QF98 from HKG-BNE next month I have been allocated 25G which is the third row back in economy. Looks like a reasonably full flight but there is a possibility that 25F could be vacant.

Cabin class: J9 C9 D8 I3 U0 Y9 B9 H9 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0

If I request an exit row, and yes there is no guarantee it will be allocated to me, the main concern is the A330 only has one exit row back at row 45. So my dilemma is request exit row or stick with allocated 25G?

Depends how quickly you want to get off and into immigration (APEC lane?). I have the same issue for Mel-HKG on NYE, I have 24A/B

No rush to get off the aircraft. I will be collecting pre-ordered duty free and then waiting for luggage and golf clubs. Does BNE have express arrivals cards like SYD and MEL?

Request that exit row; I have a spare - PM me you snal mail address.

If you have a chipped passport, then express arrival passes may be redundant in any case.
