    Use of Qantas Lounges

    This is my first posting so bear with me. I have been a Qantas Club member since 1993. I recently decided to start reducing my serious backlog of FF points (worried about the bid for Qantas). Booked an economy seat London return. Qantas issued the ticket with a Cathay leg Syd/HK, then HK to Heathrow. The return leg was all Qantas. My problems were as follows;

    1) I was refused entry into the Qantas lounge at Sydney before departure because I had a Cathay boarding pass.

    2) in HK I was refused entry for the same reason, told that whilst the Qantas Club card was no good, if I had a guest Qantas pass I could come in. I escalated the issue with more senior managers to no avail.

    3) When I had checked about using the Qantas Club on these sectors before taking off, all Qantas staff without fail said I could use the lounges without any problems, Cathay boarding pass or not.

Could those in the know explain all of this to me. regards

    Re: Use of Qantas Lounges

Access to Qantas Club lounges for Club members with no status is conditional on travelling on a QF, BA or JQ flight number.

A QC member flying on other OW carriers does not get access.

If you had OW Sapphire or Emerald status, you would have been able to access the QC lounge.

More information here (see the following note under the Qantas Club and Frequent Flyers table - " + Must be travelling on a Qantas, British Airways or Jetstar flight number.")

    And welcome to AFF

Shano, thanks for your prompt reply..my thoughts at the time were as follows... the points I was using were Qantas FF, they were using partner airlines to help them use up my points. The ticketing was all done thru Qantas. Moreover, if I had a guest pass I could get in?? OK how does one get a guest pass and lastly why did all the Qantas staff in Aistralia say that there would be no problems using Qantas lounges o/s with a Cathay boarding pass?? I tried your weblink but I can't see mu OW status either on my card or on the FF website. regards

Also Admirals Club lounges when travelling on American Airlines flights.

It says it all here (from the FAQ's): Cathay Pacific lounge access

Unfortunately, all that is irrelevant. As per the link I posted you must be traveling QF, BA, JQ or AA to get QP (or equivalent) access.

If you become/retain silver status on Qantas Frequent Flyer, they mail you a QP invitation (it's not really a guest pass).

Because many Qantas staff have not fully educated themselves in the fine naunces of QFF/QP memberships and specific differences between the rules. We all have to deal with this at varying times. (You will generally get more accurate information here on AFF.)

I presume you are a Qantas Club member of either Bronze or Silver Status.

If you go to Your (QFF) Account on Qantas.com you should see any status after "Membership type:".

    Re: Use of Qantas Lounges

Thanks for all of your answers. My boarding passes used to show my One World status but how do I check it otherwise?? It doesn't appear on the FF website anywhere that I can see, unless my status has vaporized back to nothing. regards

    Check the "Your Summary" Page.

Under Membership Status you should see something like:
    Code:
    Current Status: <status>
    Status credits earned from <date>: <earned SC's>
Additional Status credits required by <date1> to attain Silver: <required SC's>

    That should supply the information.
