I'm not sure, I fly J international so not alot of experience with upgrades, but i'd have thought if it were a better chance, it would be because there's 2 flights a day instead of 1, doubling your odds.
Ive flown four times to Lax from Brisbane and not succeeded in getting an upgrade once..
Someone mentioned that flying out from Sydney there is greater success in getting an upgrade..
Is this true???
Do you mean a points upgrade or an op-up? If you mean points upgrade, then I cannot say whether flying from Sydney or Brisbane will give you a better chance, but the LA routes are always difficult to get a points upgrade on. What is your QFF status, as that will be a major factor in your success.
If you mean an op-up, then 0 out of 4 is not an unusual position. Most people have much worse hit ratios.
I am sure I had heard that it was easier to get points upgrades from BNE than SYD due to the number of WP that might be ahead of you in the queue in SYD.
Is SFO an option for you?

As a general rule what serfty is good advice, the mid week flights have lower loads and better chances of upgrades.
I am almost 100% for request upgrades on international services in the last 2 years (as Platinum) including tonights flight. but none of these have been USA, but to LHR which is also a busy route.

We're flying Syd/SFO mid September - I reckon as we are both bronze, on award flights, in our mid 50s (well over the hump really), we would have to have one blue eye, one green eye -each of us of course, one with a limp and one with two right legs and I could handle all that but they wouldn't tell us which one of us has to have the two right legs!! Still, hope is a fine thing!
Driver, stick around AFF, learn from others experinces and tips, then put it to good use - very soon you may find yourself being able to fly more comfortably more often; even being able to guest friends into Airline lounges ...

It is truly an amazing world serfty - and I have learned heaps and am greatly enjoying reading all the posts. I have just applied for and been accepted for a Wizare Clear Advantage Mastercard, thanks to advice here. I have two passes for LAX Qantas lounge courtesy of two members and have been calmed down about a too short time between connecting flights. The help and kindness is amazing. I like too, the feisty to and fros! Cheers!
