Well simongr where are you ? and all the others who swear by Tumi.
Some opinions, is it worth the money ? Favorite peices ?
I think its time i renew my luggage and i will be doing a few HKG stops along with others and it seems well priced there.
That or the Victorinox gear ?

My current is Berghaus and CAT, but i also like Northface.

I started to re-read the huge luggauge thread but wondering what peoples current thoughts were.

    - Must be light
    - Strong
    - Modern (don't really care much for leather old styles etc)

I've been using Victorinox for the past 3 years and love it, it's so hard wearing, stylish and easy to spot given so few people use it.

Ive got one of their large Red suitcases, and given its been overseas and interstate dozens of times, it still looks good.

    Its definitely worth the money.

Both Victorinox (NXT) and Tumi are excellent and I back them against anything else out there. I have pieces that are almost ancient now and still going strong, but note, they are not lightweight. A standard 27 inch suitcase is about 4-5kg empty.

I recently bought 2 High Sierra rolling duffels (1680 denier ballistic nylon no less) on the basis of recommendations I read...don't...they are crap. Bad zippers and seams have come adrift, retaining straps have come off, will never buy again. I am going to complain to the importer when I get around to it.

You get what you pay for with Victorinox and Tumi but I cannot speak about their lower range (more lightweight) models. North Face do a good unstructured PVC Tarpaulin duffel (no wheels) which is light and strong.

Yes i did like the Victorinox.
I think the one in the store i looked at was...
    Victorinox
Or the NTX series... i like the green of the Werks Traveler

And the Tumi for carry-on. Just need to test try my mini notebook to see how it fits but i like the bag.

The Victorinox is significantly cheaper than the Tumi, makes the decision easier.

I want the smallest i can get away with traveling on the road for 5 or 6 weeks.... must take a suit and shoes.

If that one's the one I'm thinking of (international carry-on sized?), I came very close to buying it a few weeks ago. Plenty of space, and I loved the in-built suit carrier. I just couldn't bring myself to do a 6 week DONE4 with carry-on only though...as much as I wanted to.

The luggage shop in Town Hall (Sydney) had it for a good price...not much more than $200, $250ish I think.

    Cheers,
    - Febs.

PS: For solid and cheap luggage, I've become a big fan of Antler. I have a medium-sized Antler "Aeon" (awesome design) with me on this current DONE4 and it's holding up a lot better than my Samsonite did after just one flight. Don't think I'd ever buy Samsonite again.

I think it may have been a checked item i was looking at, even though i want it small. Carry-on is a huge ask with a suit i think.... but maybe i see how i go.

I've got this piece plus one of the larger ones...this ones great, quite large but still within carry on limits, so for short trips it makes the ideal carry on to avoid checking in.

My 2 cents. Love all the Victorinox product.

After 4 years and much travel I had a problem with one non-essential zip from my main case. I had also lost a wheel on my cabin bag.

Victorinox rep in Melbourne fixed/replaced both items within 60 mins for free.

Whilst at the Victorinox store I spied the new KING of Cabin baggage - for those that combine work and some play. The Stonehenge.

    Victorinox

The bag itself is large enough for a 3-day trip and the backpack straps great if u need "hand's free". However, the best feature is the heavy duty removable sleeve (with shoulder strap and other compartments) that can be used to transport the laptop and accessories to/from the office each day - so no need to take the entire cabin bag to work each day once at the destination.

Tumi is good solid gear, but it can't exist in the same sentence as 'lightweight'...

All of the Victorinox gear comes with a lifetime warranty, any time anythings broken, be it airline fault or not, they've always fixed it without question...thats how i gauge a good company, their backup service.
