    Travel class codes?

Can one of the gurus please point me to a link that lists all the class of travel code letters and what they signify? I presume codes such as J, Y, etc. are universal to all airlines, but do the restricted types (eg. D) also have a common universal basis?

As a DONEx user, I've always booked well ahead and seemed to have almost always got the flights I wanted. However, I've been curious as to what restrictions apply to that class and how easy it is to get D class flights at short notice.

Is there any way of checking ahead for the availability of different fare classes for QF (and other airlines, especially OneWorld) on line?

Your presumption isnt exactly right. Not all airlines use F for unrestricted First ( have seen P used for example ) and C is used by some for unrestricted business for example. Within OW , there is some consistency about the booking classes

The easy way to check for availability by class is using a tool such as Expert Flyer ( offered at a 15% discount to Gold AFF members )

    Thanks, Dave.

Is there a listing that you know of on the QF web site of their version of all class designator letters? I searched, but couldn't locate anything.

    What's a Gold AFF member?

Some of the codes used by Qantas can be found on the website at

Frequent Flyer - Points Calculators - Qantas Class Types

    Hope this helps

    Re: Travel class codes?

There are two types of codes, generic Cabin Codes as far as I know (R=Premium First Class Sleeper [previously Supersonic Class]P=Premium First Class, F=First Class, J or C=Business Premium, D, I, or Z=Business Class, and Y=Economy), then there are Fare Codes which are subsets of the Cabin Codes, so for example M may be a discounted Economy fare where the passenger travels in the Y Cabin. These are the IATA RBDs (Reservation Booking Designators):
    • FIRST CLASS CODES:
    • R First Class Suite (currently only on the Airbus A380, previously Supersonic ie Concord or Concorde First Class)
    • P Premium First Class
    • F First Class
    • A First Class Discounted
    • BUSINESS CLASS CODES
    • J Premium Business Class
    • C Business Class
    • D Business Class Discounted
    • I Business Class Discounted
    • Z Business Class Discounted
    • ECONOMY CLASS CODES
    • W Economy/Coach Premium
    • S Economy/Coach Premium
    • Y Economy/Coach
    • B Economy/Coach Discounted
    • H Economy/Coach Discounted
    • K Economy/Coach Discounted
    • L Economy/Coach Discounted
    • M Economy/Coach Discounted (Round the World Fare)
    • N Economy/Coach Discounted
    • Q Economy/Coach Discounted
    • T Economy/Coach Discounted
    • V Economy/Coach Discounted
    • X Economy/Coach Discounted
    • x
    • N after a code indicates it's a night flight - I've only seen this on American carriers.

    Welcome to AFF JRAPQQ,

Thank you fo the update on Qantas fare bucket codes - there have indeed been changes since the implementation of Premium Economy and the 388.

    Notably to W, T and R.

Note that E class is often used these days for deep discounted domestic sale fares.

Z is now Award Premium Economy.
