Return From LHR

Can anyone find a flight that'll get back from London leaving on Friday evening (prefer after 1700) and can get into BNE by Saturday night?

I can only find 2200 departures that arr 0600 the next day.

Re: Return From LHR

Let look at the maths:

17:00 Friday LHR time is 02:00 Saturday BNE time.

most direct routing commonly available is LHR-HKG-BNE (10,300 miles vs non-stop being 10,277 miles).

Flight time LHR-HKG is generally 11:30 hours, so if departing LHR at 02:00 BNE time, arrival into HKG would be 13:30 BNE time. Allow a minimum 90 mins connection time so departing HKG at 15:00 BNE time.

Flight time HKG-BNE is generally 8:45 hours, so if departing HKG at 15:00 BNE time, arrival into BNE would be 23:45 BNE time.

Now given that the closest departure time to 17:00 from LHR that I can find is CX250 at 18:05, I can only conclude that the best arrival time into BNE would be the early hours of Sunday morning.

I'm pretty sure that on the One World site there is a tool that you can use to search all flights by arrival time,if I remember correctly you select the
"Air travel options" tab and put in the date and cities and use the drop down arrow to select "sort by arrival time'
Of course this is only useful for OW airlines.

Re: Return From LHR

Thanks NM and NigelinOz, seems to confirm my own thoughts. I beleive there are a few midday-ish flights that would get you back to BNE c2230hr, but that wont work as cant really leave LHR until later in day.

Looks like the overnight from SIN it is.

Yep, Looks like that's your only real option doc, what we need is a non stop UK-AUS service like Virgin was talking about a few years ago using the 787,will be interesting to see whether they go ahead with that if they
ever actually get them.you would think there would be a reasonable market for something like that, especially if they could get the flight time down to around 17-18 hours.

Re: Return From LHR

Yeah, although 17hr in F or J might be ok, but 17hr in Y? Pass - i'll take the extra 3 hours to walk around in the middle.

Also, price and payload becomes a fator, you're carrying so much more fuel, just to be able to carry all the extra fuel (if you understand what I mean). Law of diminishing return!

This isnt for me by the way (my father actually), but he'll likely be in J (points upgrade req to F no doubt).

On another question, are QF and SQ and CX all using lie-flat business to BNE? If not, he'll try and ticket to whoever is if it's overnight into BNE.

I would be pretty sure that they all are,I must say though that I really like
the CX product,I think their J seat is one of the most comfortable I have experienced.

Direct flight SYD-LHR? I think they were still talking about 20+ hours. But even at 17 hours it is still a long time to be sitting in WHY.

Re: Return From LHR

You are correct John, I found the article referring to the direct flights and
they are talking 16 Hours EX PERTH to LHR. so add on the extra for the PER-SYD leg and we're talking 20+ hours.Probably the only thing that could do it quicker would be Concorde and i don't think there's much chance of that happening

SQ317 DEP LHR 1055 ARR SIN 0735 (A380); SQ 0245 DEP SIN 0955 ARR BNE 1935

Alternatively, if you wanted to leave "after 1700" your takeoff slot will cost you aboiut $25 million (by negotiation one year in advance) in your Global Express business jet ($50m each; $30,000 per hour), which should get you into Brisbane about 2am Sunday after a fuel stop in SIN.
