    Qantas Club Member's Guest Passes

About to move and cleaning out an old desk found 13 old passes. They are undated. Some are blue and some a sort of ivory.

They must be used in conjunction with the member. As a WP these days I have less use for them. Anyone care to make a suggestion or even an offer?

    Throw them out?

The old Guest Passes ceased to have validity about 2 or 3 years ago when Qantas changed the scheme around.

That said, with undated ones you could probably still try to use them and see what the staffer says. There is probably a new breed of lounge dragon (no offence!) lurking at the desks vs 2 years ago, so they may not know what they are and allow entry.

But a member is permitted to take a guest anyway, so what good is the guest pass going to be? Unless you are trying to admit more guests than entitled.

I am hoping that in years to come, these old passes may be worth something in terms of airline memorabilia and that someone may be willing to purchase them for that purpose.

In that case my collection of Golden Wing Club guest passes should be worth an absolute fortune

Are they really trying to bring in more guess than entitled. When guess passes were used QF were saying your entitled to bring in 1 guess per pass. That entitlement expired with some passess (the dated ones) and with other passes the entitlement did not expire. If I never used the guess pass back then, why shouldn't I be allowed to get my entitlement now? Especially, in the case, that I rarely bring in a guess but occassionally travel with more than 1 person.

Because Qantas announced a change to the scheme which ended the usability of the guest passes but allowed the admission of a guest to Qantas Club members on every visit. Although the passes are not dated, the scheme rule changes invalidated them

I think you will find that in the communication sent by Qantas to their FF members at the time of making the changed to lounge gust access policy, they explicitly said the exiting member's guest passes were no longer valid. In my mind, that means they are no longer valid, regardless of if they have an expiry date printed on them or not.

But if you really want to try using them, I am very happy to sell you a significant number of them .

Re: Qantas Club Member's Guest Passes

I certainly don't want to try using one of the old passes, I have a few of them at home somewhere myself. I guess I missed the bit where I was talking about an entitlement in general terms without letting the facts get in the way of a good story.

There doesn't seem to be anything in the current T&C that says old passes are invalid. The current T&C only talk about the current situation from what I can see. I'm not sure about the letter sent to members when the change was made. (but accept that it happened nevertheless) That would invalidate the pass.

But then I didn't pay that much attention to the letter at the time and I don't have the letter, now. So, if I was to try to use a dateless guest pass, and they confronted me with the invalidation via the members notice on the changes, I'd have to ask them to show me a copy of that notice.

The change was from June 1st 2004 ...

Before that a member was supplied with 10 guest passes per year. You could purchase an annual guest card as well.

I have about 50+ of these at home, some blue, some white with no expiry date and some white with expiry.

Interestingly I have two of the old Folded A5 size blue "invitations" - with NO expiry date. These are from the mid 90's. I did have more, including some with expiry dates but these were all used (before expiry if pertinent).

Yes, I remember the 10 passes per year and also the dated and non dated passes. I fear my good wife has cleaned up my old passes, especially the dated passes. Perhaps my undated passes got cleaned up as well. But I might have squirrelled them away somewhere.

I seem to recall getting the undated passes not long before they changed to guest allowance to 1 per visit. I recalling thinking at the time that they stuffed up on the guest passes big time, by creating an ongoing liability. I recall thinking that the change was made to get the undated passes out of the system.

But then my memory is pretty much rubbish and QF must have worked out the averages to their benefit.
