    PC properties in Wellington

In lieu of any SPG or even HH properties , I am looking at the Holiday Inn WLG vs the InterContinental WLG. The rates are quite similar - with the HI cheaper by NZ$70. I will be spending 2 nights in WLG.

I'm inclined to go with the IC, but there are very nice things about the HI written on tripadvisor, and indeed from the pics it does look a lot more stylish than a lot of HIs I've stayed at.

Does anyone have a strong preference for one hotel over the other (in terms of location, bed comfort, service, decor)? Or should I just flip a coin?

    PC pleb here...

As I live in Wellington, I havne't stayed in these properties. The IC is probably the best hotel in Wellington.

The IC is in the middle of town and the HI is on the edge of the CBD, and at opposite end of town where all the nightlife is. You can walk from the HI to the IC in about 5 minutes. From what I can see, the IC is a 4 to 5 star hotel, while the HI is about a 3 to 4 star.

The IC has one of the better restaurants in Wellington, while the HI eating place is OK, but over-priced (even by hotel standards).

The HI only opened earlier this year, and they're STILL putting the final touches to it. There's also a huge construction site next to the HI. The HI is also located at the windiest (is there such a word?) street in Wellington.

    I'd lean towards the IC...

Thumbs up Re: PC properties in Wellington

I have stayed at the IC only once in late 2005 and was upgraded to the huge Presidential Suite . I arrived late at night with my wife and 2 children ( via Jetconnect reward) to find that the 2 interconnecting rooms that I had requested , and were in the reservation notes, were 2 floors apart!
Having no PC status it looked like my wife and I were going to have to split the kids up and head for different floors but I asked if there was anything they could do to help...any 2 bedroom suites? .
They said let me show you our best suite which was HUGE!! and a couple of rollaways appeared soon after... It was fantastic , complete with board room and room after room., including a grand piano.
Apparently the Turkish PM had stayed in it the night before.

A great stay and the General Manager aplologised personally to me the following morning. It was the highlight of the trip for our kids.
Great hotel with a great location.

Just to clarify - does this mean that the IC is near all the nightlife, whilst the HI is at the opposite end of town in relation to the nightlife? Or the other way round? Sorry, just a little confused.

And just in case the IC isn't near nightlife, being able to walk from HI to IC in 5 mins means the nightlife isn't all that far away from the IC anyway?

    Cheers.

Nothing is very far away in Wellington, very compact city, and the times I've been there if you don't want to walk, taxis not too hard to find.

Being nearer to nightlife means it's deffo the IC for me.

There're also a handful of pubs and restaurants very close to the IC - about 2 mins away. From the IC, just walk straight towards the water.
