Each time I have made alterations to a paper ticket in the last 5 years or so, the ticket has either needed to be re-issued or re-validated. If just a date/time change with the same routing, then there is generally no charge but has to e done by a ticket/sales office and not at check-in. When I have turned up at the airport with a paper ticket that does not have the correct date/time for the particular booking (i.e. I have changed the flights) I have been sent to the ticket counter to have it re-validated (stickered) with the correct details.
If you cannot get to the QF sales office, then I expect you will need to visit the KA ticket counter at the airport to have the ticket re-validated before you can check-in.
