    Oneworld Explorer baggage allowance

If all goes to plan I'll be departing on a DONE4 ex-JNB in May this year (first flight BA codeshare with Comair). Other flights are booked on QF, RJ, CX, AA, AY.

    1. How do I calculate my baggage allowance?
    2. Will it vary by carrier or does it go on (a) the allowance of the first carrier (BA) or (b) the most generous allowance?
    3. If it's the most generous allowance, is this QF?
    4. Does my OWE status count for anything here?

The BA website says "If you purchase one ticket for your entire journey (a through ticket) you will receive the most generous allowance available.
For example if you are travelling to a destination which involves British Airways and another airline (on a through ticket), we will respect the baggage policy of the other airline and the most generous allowance will apply." I'm assuming, though, that connecting means, for example, LHR-SIN-SYD, not a whole round the world flight spread over several weeks.

The xONEx rules are specific - the "Piece" system is to be employed.

    This normally means two pieces.

I suggest you read the thread you originally posted your question to again closely (xONEx Baggage Allowances); some baggage weight limits have changed but it generally holds up.

Review the operating airlines' current policies and go from there.

FWIW, I shudder at the though of check luggage in the first place, let alone 2 x 32Kg

You are entitled to 2 Pieces as per the ticket rules

The maximum weight of that piece is dependant upon the airline you are travelling on

There is no additional allowance for OW status

Some carriers will allow 32 Kg per piece, others 23Kg

If you want to ensure that you are not hit for excess fees, then keep to 2x23Kg and you will be fine

An exception is that BA will allow 3 pieces, however since you cannot do the whole journey on BA, I wouldn't suggest taing 3 unless you are just dropping some stuff off en-route after the BA flights

Thanks, Dave. I was particularly interested in the maximum weight per bag so 23kgs seems like the way to go. Apparently there is an entitlement to one extra piece on the QF flights only which may very well come in handy with my last two sectors on QF.

The oneworld website indicates that baggage allowances are as per each airline flown. Check out the baggage allowances for each airline by looking at the conditions of carraige page at:

I am currently travelling on a RTW J class ticket with one world and notice that our LAN flight between Lima and Cuzco does not offer a business class service...Am I still permitted under the piece baggage system 2 pieces at 23kg ?...LAN states that for economy flights within Peru 2 pieces are allowed with the TOTAL weight being 23 kg...Am I correct in stating that I am allowed 2 pieces at 23 kg ?...Thanks for any advice

The allowance on the OWE is 2 Pieces. The airline can limit the maximum weight of the pieces so they could limit it to 23Kg max. I would suggest confirming with Lan what their policy is
