Help Wanted: Girl Seeks Advice for Upcoming O/S Trip

Hi all

I have an upcoming overseas trip and was hoping all you expert FF's might be able to help me with some hints and tips.

1. I am flying from Sydney to Rome on Cathay (economy) with a one night stopover each way in HK. I am quite tall and always ask for exit row seats in advance – in the past this worked but doesn’t seem to anymore. Was just wondering if anybody had any tips on how to obtain an exit row seat?

2. I am a Qantas Club member and Silver/Ruby Oneworld status (only a couple of points off gold - bad timing) but as I’m flying Cathay economy, I won’t have access to the lounges. Again, can anyone suggest a way to get into the lounges in Sydney, HK and Rome?

Have fun on your upcoming trip. Never flown CX before but I would recommend checking in as early as possible and asking then for an exit row, you might get lucky.

As for lounge access if you are only a few SC off Gold maybe a cheap status run prior to your trip to get you over the line into Gold. It might help with your exit row efforts as well.

Otherwise the other options are finding someone to comp you into the lounge on the same flight or find a complimentary pass. Good luck with your travels, Rome is a great place.

Take a look at the monthly threads in this forum to see if you can find someone leaving at about the same time.

Did you book through a Qantas codeshare - a QF flight number?

Or directly with Cathay - a CX flight number?

For sure this is good advise, you never know when one of us will be also flying on the same flights or be in the airport at the same time. Also may as well post in this thread as well.... pays to advertise

Unfortunately it was booked through Cathay. Now wishing I paid the extra couple hundred for QANTAS on 2 legs.

There are paid lounges in HKG that do not require $200 per visit so that might be an option?

I would post flight details and see if you can be guested.
