Ok, here I am wanting to book discounted J but not knowing if a DONE4 is the correct fare or even how to book one for that matter...

    Here's my schedule...

    Jan 2009 last week

    MEL (or SYD) / Orlando

    FEB 6 or 7

    Orlando / Lyon

    Feb 10 Lyon / Vienna

    Feb 14 Vienna / SIN

    Feb 16 SIN / Jakarta / SIN

    Feb 18 SIN / MEL

I am sure my learned friends in this forum will be willing to help me out here and point me in the correct direction to get these bookings underway.

No luggage tags for sale until first order has been completed - thanks for the support - there are still a few to sell but this will now have to wait for a few weeks

If you want to travel in business class OneWorld airlines, then the DONE4 (One World Explorer Four Continent) fare is going to be the best/cheapest option.

The cheapest way is likely to book via AA using the ATW desk and paying via AA locally. There are many threads here explaining the process.

This sector can't be done on a DONE4 - no oneworld carrier flies this route.

Alternatives are purchasing a return fare ex-SIN on SQ, LH, Jetstar Asia or an Indonesian Carrier or travelling (!!) SIN-HKG-CGK-HKG-SIN on the DONE4.

I should have pointed out SIN CKG would be on Valueair - out of the DONE4 trip

Just use CX and route via HKG.

Is this impacted now by the collapse of the A$?

I bought an DONE4 through the US and it cost A$10,500 - the refund came out at $12,500 before the complete collapse of the A$. Are we at the stage where it might now be cheaper to buiy through QF?

I do not think so; the LONE4's I purchased through AA earlier this year were simply charged on AUD as per the prevailing ex OZ rate.

Of course, those USD based components would increase (in AUD) due to this changed exchange rates ...

the base price is fined in the local currency for the country from which the ticket is purchased. It should not vary in relation to which airline issues the ticket. So purchasing an ex-Australian xONEx fare from QF and AA should cost the same A$ base amount with the variation being in taxes, fees and surcharges.

Hmm... might be best to avoid AA overwaters for now due to the rising cost of YQ due strong USD. Just had a DONE5 rated with 2 AA overwaters (NRT-JFK and LAX-LHR) and YQ came up to ZAR3827 which converts to more than AUD580. I also have a LHR s/o followed by a long haul departure to DXB (GB ZAR1296). Total taxes were more than AUD1200. YQ + GB adds up to over AUD800.

    Code:
BASE FARE EQUIV AMT TAXES TOTAL
           ZAR51500 8577XT ZAR60077ADT

    ADT-01 DONE5

    PT M51500DONE5 ZAR51500END XFLAX4.5
Thinking of changing the transpacific from AA to Cathay.... At lease that'd save about AUD300 or so even if I have to put up with Cathay and with no prospect of EVIPing....

[speaking from an AA ticketing perspective]

Now is there any cause for hope that the AUD might strengthen against the ZAR in the coming months? Anyone with a good crystal ball?
