It seems that most of the cheap deals have either expired or are expiring for travel to Europe in the Sept-Nov window. Anyone think they will reopen as I need to grab one for a relative and I would much prefer to pay $1500 return than $2000 return.

What time period are you looking at traveling? (I'm guesing after Sep/Nov since you state they are still there). The Dec/Jan is peak season from Australia and there is rarely great specials.

While we are in unusual times with very cheap AUS-UK & AUS-USA flights prices the airlines have cut quite a lot of capacity/loads out of the market place recently. Still you'll get way better prices than the average for peak season to Europe than anytime over the last 10 years (yes even the last airline problem periods)

Do you need to fly a specific airline? Do you care about FF points?

Just looking quickly on Expedia has revealed some cheap airfares SYD-LHR departing Oct 15 and returning Nov 11.

    Malaysian ~$1430
    Cathay Pacific ~$1500
    Air China ~$1580
    Etihad ~$1670
    Virgin Atlantic ~$1890
    Thai Airways ~$1900

Thanks all. I have spotted those deals but it looks like most expired today or in the next few days and I cannot book for two weeks whilst they sort their leave. I shall keep an eye on it. FF is not important. The CX fare looks quite nice if it holds.

Although as they are a first time flyer the turbulence from HKG to LHR can be a bit rough some times. It is strange that when I have flown via SIN or BKK to LHR the turbulence has not been too bad but when going to or from HKG to LHR them turbulence has been noticeable.
