Have just noticed on my bookings page with Qantas they are asking for Advance Passenger Information for our trip to the USA. We have obvioulsy already filled out online Visa Waivers... does anyone know what this extra info is for ? Its the same old run of the mill questions asking address, nationality and passport info ??? Just curious...

It may save you time if you do this before heading to the Airport.

Otherwise, these details need to be entered when checking in.

Interestingly, you can view what you entered on www.checkmytrip.com.

Are you actually allowed to apply at the airport before flying? I though you had to submit your details at least 48 hours before arriving?

Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) became mandatory on January 12, 2009, requiring VWP travelers to provide basic biographic, travel, and eligibility information online to receive advance authorization prior to their departure for the United States. Most travelers can expect to receive authorization within a few minutes; however, travelers are advised to complete an ESTA as soon as they begin to plan their travel, and at least 72 hours in advance to avoid any last-minute delays.

That's 2 different things, what the OP is referring to is info requested by Qantas itself, the Visa Waiver online is direct with the US Government.

Although it advises 48 hours prior, i've successfully done it for a client on the morning of departure, though don't suggest trying it.
You cant apply at the airport (unless you love taking a risk and have a computer handy! )

Hmmm.. Interesting... That "Check My Trip" makes me wonder just how many places my flight info is being stored ??

But this has now presented a new problem... Not sure I didn't notice before but it seems that my self and my partner have been allocated seats apart from each other (maybe not a bad move depending what kind of mood she will be in during a 12 hour flight) but.. can I change these online somewhere are through Qantas before the rest of the seats are filled and we are stuck miles apart ?

C/M/T simply publishes a portion of the information stored in your Amadeus PNR. it's really only here and perhaps on Qantas' internal systems a day or so before a flight such data is stored. You bookings on Qantas access the same physical data source.

Call Qantas ASAP and see if you can get reseated together.

Presuming you are PS then you should be able to do so until about 80 hours before the flight.

Seems to be a glitch in the QF seat allocation system, I had a couple yesterday, both with Aisle preference in their F/F and the system in its infinite wisdom decided to allocate aisle seats to both 3 rows apart.

A quick call to QF resolved, just do it sooner rather than later.
