Hi,

Does anyone have an insight to how Westpac (or other banks in general) decide on credit issuing? I currently have a gold mastercard with them and want to switch to the gold altitude mc/amex account. Would they treat it as a new app or would they see it as a straight swap??

When they offered the altitude amex as a 2nd card, there was no credit lookup done, so.. looking at other banks, I see no reason why it wouldnt be a straight swap. However you will be paying a higher yearly fee, and you may be charged a fee for the amex too..

Most Banks (if not all) use a credit scoring system. The data is fed into the system and a decision is made based on your credentials. Eg How long have you been living at your address, stability of employment, ability to save etc
