Only you can answer whether you think the benefits are worth it but there a few cool features that aren't available on the basic service. The key benefits I see are being able to zoom in on fligth maps and the additional stats on distance per airline and travel over the last year.
Here is what Flightmemory proclaim of the Premium service for ~$45 ($39USD):
Additional stats on top airlines and top aircrafts by distance
Yearly statistics detailing your acitivites (flights, distances, duration)
Addtional functionality to sort the data by airline and aircraft
List of the visited continents and countries
Most northern, most southern, most eastern and most western airports visited
Note: Additional PREMIUM statistics will only be available after sign-in. Public stats (my.flightmemory.com/username) will not change until further notice
Journeys can be added:
New tool for journeys: enables you to build history of flights and additional information such as rental car, trains, buses, etc.
All costs of a journey may be added to allow for comparisons between your trips
Costs for any element of a journey may be defined in different currencies
And of course all costs of a journey will be added to allow you a comparison over your journeys

I think also the PRemium version let you upload flight details via Excel.
Although if you already have them in that form query why you need the program, apart from the reporting

Once you've backdated the flights and have the historical data in there, I've found it quite easy to add flights. (ie. no more than 1 min per flight) I like that it tracks mileage etc and find it better than the BA97 calander.
For me, the Premium Subscription is not needed yet as I can still see fairly easily the routes I've taken on the maps. For someone like Kiwi Flyer though, being able to zoom in on the flights would be handy.

you can get that on the free service - you have to pay for it. And I believe you have to pay for it on the premium service too.
i liked the idea of Journeys, It would be good to group them together when you do multi leg trips. That's what i was keen to find out about.
I have been using the free version for quite some time.
Entering the data is quite simple now as most of it is pre-entered, so when I type the first letter, I just select from the drop down list (autofill - turn on if you don't it doesn't come up for you)
I have looked at the premium service and can't really see any benefit in it for me.
