I read that on the velocity website that you can purchase gold and silver memberships. Just wondering if anyone has done this and how much it costs. I imagine they would be rather expensive.

    If found the details here:

I didn't know this was possible, but I'd be curious to know how much it is. If you regularly fly on Go or Blue Saver fares then getting Silver to get the free luggage might actually be worthwhile, depending on the price. However, looking at the wording of that FAQ I think it might only be available to people connected to a corporate account.

I guess this is technically possible as all you have to do, assuming your a Red Member, is spend 4k on airfares to get Silver or 10k to get Gold... Having said that - i think the only real difference between Gold and Silver is complimentary lounge access which you can get for $300 odd anyway and even cheaper with a Silver membership (yes there are others but that is the real tangible difference).

The other difference between Silver and Gold compared to Red is also u don't have to wait in the Check IN line, there is a booth for Members with Silver and Gold so u go up check in and your on you way to the departure lounge.

Now that is interesting, I was not aware that you could buy your way up.
As others said here before, other than luggage allowance and free lounge access, there is not a great deal of difference between silver and gold.

OK, who is going to make the call to find out what the price is... TheGurio, this could be your way to get that Silver level that you keep missing out on

Now funny you should mention that - as i was thinking it already! To be honest i reckon i stand a 90% chance of getting if this year. I was crediting to QF early last year (which in the end was about how short i was GRRRR!) and i had nothing Nov 31 till end of Jan. This year i am going to start back on 8th of Dec so a nice early one. And more to the point im going to guarantee it by "evalutating" PE a few times this year...

Well, I gave them a call. I got a nice, but slightly bewildered sounding lady on the phone who helpfully told me that I could purchase this through the Rewards Store, but she thought that Silver was about $1000. I choked on my coffee and concluded that membership for The Lounge was much, much better value.

However, I can't find it in the Rewards Store at all, so now I'm wondering if the dollar figure she gave me was right either.

If you think about it, "technically" this is good value as you would have to spend 4k and at least 6 hrs on a plane. What I'm wondering is can you use this to leapfrog to gold or you still need to spend the 10k to get it. I'd just like to see if it's possible, I am in no way thinking about it as The Minister For Finance would certainly have something to say about it and if we go OS later next year I'll hope to do one leg on VA at least so might get there anyway.
