How does status assessment work?
I'm confused. My Velocity membership year has just finished (end of November) and they've given me Silver status even though I haven't flown with DJ since August. I was a bit confused with the way they determined the initial status, now I'm completely baffled. Has anyone else seen this sort of thing?

If you had 18,465 status credits, maybe they decided you were close enough to the target (20,000) to comp you.
Yes, that's most likely the case.
When I made an enquiry about some missing points on my Velocity account last month, the person I spoke with said that I might be comped to Gold tier given that I was very close. In the end I flew enough to earn it anyway by the anniversary date.

Received this email today... this confirms that close enough was good enough (for me anyway).

Hi StevePER
Great news. Your Velocity Membership has been upgraded from Red to Silver. Surprised? While you didn't quite have enough Status Credits to officially qualify, you were so close we thought you deserved a 'one-off' gift. Velocity genuinely appreciates your loyalty and we look forward to showing you a new level of service and Rewards.

Re: How does status assessment work?
I got sent an email saying that if i got 12,000 points by the end of Nov that i would get comped to silver, and just quitely im dissapointed in myself as i had 11,400 and then went OS for a month and fell just short - i was thinking of doing a MR (even though at that point in time i had no idea what it was!) but there just wasnt enough in the kitty to then go away to europe for a month...
I feel cheated but then again its all my own fault - im just hoping some nice person will let me get comped without me doing anyhting...

I need about 4300 by end of Jan to get Gold, and with a BNE-SYD (Sunday 6th), and a SYD - MEL (Thurs 10th) I hope to just scrape in, or if close enough maybe they will comp me into Gold.
Given that it includes free lounge membership I am not sure if they will be so generous.... wait and see I guess.
It will be interesting to see what happens if I make Gold. I am a paid lounge member that expires in March, but my review is at the end of Jan. Leaving a two month paid for overlap. I am not sure how they will handle that one.

That shall be interesting indeed... I would imagine that the complimentary one would start in March and continue for the 12 months afterward but then again u have no idea, and yes i am jealous - I gotta pay $30 to get in there, which i will be from 7 - 8.45 on Sun in MEL (am unfortunately) if anyone is interested...

I made it to Gold on Nov 30 2007 and have a paid Lounge membership which expires in August 2008, so I contacted VB to enquire as to what happens. They advised that any unused portion of Lounge membership will be refunded in due course. I'm guessing it will be processed back onto my credit card.
