I thought worthy of a new post as to not get lost in the other Prem Y "update" thread...Mods pls feel free to lock or combine
Prem Y appears to be on sale for travel 15Mar about $50 higher than Corp Plus on SYDMEL. Doesnt appear great value vs corp plus..or is that corp plus isnt good value..let the debate begin
also am I being pedantic that the DJ web site now has a picture of Prem Y with 2 punters sitting in the seats and along side are sale fares....to me as joe public that price = the product I'm getting on the left of the prices...I would suggest they change the position of the picture or the sale pricing as its more than a bit deceptive

having seen the seats I think its way overpriced myself.
QF J still has so much more than DJs Premium Y lacks, the only people I can see it being a success with is those who don't care what it costs the company.
I think P.E.'s a great thing on 737s, but on the Ejets, there doesn't seem to be much (physical) difference between standard economy & PE (other than a red leather seat)... so problem is, how do you know which aircraft will operate the flight you are on?
Further on the value for money stakes
I noticed on the web site announcing todays launch "A minor percentage of seats are at 33 inches"What consitutes a minor percentage. Further info points out that EMB170 all have 33" pitch 34" on the EMB190 on 737s "Seat pitch: 34 inches in most flights" (to be fair it says 737-700's-they didnt include info on the 737-800- dont know why)however you cant have 1 seat only at <34" it has to be either half a row=2 seats or the whole row 4 seats out of 12. Also can't see where the value (read price premium)of PY on the EMB acrft is...no IFE, no food, limited lounges and as per the DJ web site no better seatpitch than anyone else onboard ...although 34" on the 190 is very good or does that mean the entire aircraft is PY??How do you justify 3 times the price difference between leadin price and Prem Y on an EMB with the only differential extra bags and a lounge at probobly 1 end of the route)?? Or is the DJ site incorrect regarding the EMB Prem Y seating . If it is wrong I'm very happy to be corrected otherwise is just not worth it Embraer 170

Embraer 190

You get about 31" normally on QF/DJ, so 2 or 3 extra inches is not much - atleast when talking about seat pitch
Having said this, the config is really no different that BA and LH intra-europe. But on LH the food looked great in the front rows of the cabin, and was rather good down the back as well.
(note on BA/LH A319/A320 etc you can bag the exit rows in whY for than many extra inches for free, i guess you can on DJ as well, just never paid any attention since i have only flown a few times.)

Even thought the hard product is the same, with Virgin you still have to pay for food and unlike in Europe, their competitor offers a full business product and seat for a msall amount more (ie comparing the SYD-MEL route)
I have to say, as a VERY regular user of DJ, to pay an extra $50 for the PE seats in my mind is not good value. I would have thought the Corp. plus fares should include the PE seats.
I am sure anyone buying a CP fare will be given a PE seat if available.. I really am surprised with the price difference though.
I mean to fly MEL-SYD on say DJ809 on March 20 is $109 currently for promo fare and $389 in PE... The extras of lounge access ($35) and extra baggage allowance and a guarantee of having no one squished up against you for an hour at a price of an extra $280 just doesn't compute for me...
