Re: Complimentary upgrade to Premium Economy

No upgrade on the way home, the flight was 100% full and the Premium Economy seats had been converted back to normal 3-3 seating. I wonder if the middle seat is extra uncomfortable with the table behind you?

The flight was not the best because they ran out of food (I don't think they loaded any hot meals at all) and then left the seatbelt sign on for two hours.

Re: Complimentary upgrade to Premium Economy

Checking in a little early for the 8pm SYD-BNE flight last Sunday 6 Jul 08 and we were offered seats on the earlier flight. I asked if there were 2 aisle seats next to each other and they gave me boarding passes for 2C and 2D.

I am almost certain these seats were still in the premium economy configuration as both middle seats were empty and the tray table in between the seats next to me was down throughout the flight. The front row was seated 3 abreast.

Does this count a complimentrary upgrade to premium economy? I did pay $220 and $240 each for the 2 seats which may have had something to do with the upgrade.

Re: Complimentary upgrade to Premium Economy

When you fly Premium Y on DJ, is the seat actually wider than normal whY? I ask this because on the TV comercials, it just looks like the middle seat has a table for drinks etc etc...but your seat isn't actually bigger for a Premium product?

If paying for a premium product you would expect; inflight entertainment at no charge; meals/snacks/beverage included; bigger seat; lounge access; extra baggage limit; priority boarding....just some things you get when flying Business on Qantas.

I still think that Virgin has a very very long way to go before competing against Qantas, maybe they are targeting Death*

And still no lounge in Perth for DJ. Then again, Perth Domestic airport is like a tin shed. More than 2 747's coming in from Syd + Mel and it's chaos come baggage collection time.

You get half a seat more as the armrest is slid over to the other seat, not much more room but some more none the less. You do get lounge access but no IFE or food. I also think you get priority check-in but im not sure about boarding. I am withyou in what they need to do to make it a premium product. About the only difference from full Y is the extra half a seat. IMHO that doesnt make it worth the extra they are asking considering it is about $100 for most domestic longer haul as has been said before you still ahve to fork out the $4.90 for IFE and pay for the food etc. Its good but it just misses the mark i feel with quite easy remedies to make it up to get there.

If it was only $100 they might have a chance. On PER-SYD it is $320 more than the flexible fare (and looks like it's just gone up by $20) and I don't know who could justify spending so much extra money.

Re: Complimentary upgrade to Premium Economy

Well, doesn't look like Premium to me at all. All it is really is just an empty seat next to you, which half the time you get in whY.
I think that it's a rip off and would NOT pay the extra money for. Just my 0.02cents

I have posted previously that the flights I had been on a few months ago, premium Y has been 100% empty all times and I suspected that DJ were keeping them empty and set up to 'exhibit' the product so to speak.

Last couple of weeks I have noticed in 3 flights that this is not the case anymore, they are allocating them as normal seats (because there are 3 ppl across).

I have heard murmurs from DJ contractors that Premium Y is tanking, along with Live 2 Air. I still maintain my position that both are horribly overpriced (and in the case of Live to Air I think they got the offer wrong as well) - BUT on a massive positive I think DJ could easily turn them into winners by glamming up premium Y with food etc and cheaper prices and making Live to Air free for 6 months or something / upgrading to AVOD!?
