Blue Zone seating now bookable online

From here: Virgin Blue > Extra Legroom

Note that you can't select which Blue Zone seat you want with this new feature.

Am I the only one that thinks that, in its current form, the Y+ offering could be undermined by increasing the accessibility of the much cheaper Blue Zone?

I have had blue zone (guaranteed exit row seating) for at least 80% of the DJ flights I have taken in the last year or so. Rest assured that it is very likley that the 3 seats will be used. Blue Zone does not guarantee you a blocked seat next to you and busy routes (BNE/MEL/SYD) it is usually impossible to get the "wanted seat" an I frequently end up in a centre seat (due to my reluctance to be at an airport 2 hours before the flight to get the "best seats")

You're not the only one that thinks that!

My comments excactly as posted in 'y+ comp upgrades'
Re: Complimentary upgrade to Premium Economy
Probobly deserves its own post but you can now book exit row seats online as part of the DJ booking process...what this shows is how overpriced Premium Y is
eg by buying a readily avail fare of say $120 SYDMEL and adding $35 for the exit row seat + 30 single Lounge entry and $5 for Live TV =$190 you have effectively a product DJ is asking $400 for
no wonder they have to give away the product...the only problem is you still have to buy a fully flex fare at $275 or 30% more than bundling a BFOD and other bits ..
come mid Aug when the comp upgrade goes the price diff is back to double

    Mr!

Have been offered upgrade to blue zone middle of the plane seats, but have always declined... would much prefer NOT to be sitting shoulder to shoulder just for a bit more leg room.

I note that on almost every flight those blue zone seats are filled shoulder to shoulder whilst almost every other row has at least one empty seat.

I guess this depends upon your relative shoulder width and leg length. At 6ft 1in I always suffer from the leg problem so the extra leg room is really appreciated.
    cheers,

Whilst not that tall, i guess around 170 - 175cm, Exit rows are nice but not essential. I would much prefer to have a spare seat next to me to put all my garbage whilst in transit. The other thing i like about non-exit row seats is the fact that you dont have to get out of ytour seat to get your computer/headphones etc. For me it's nice but not essential, mind you the same thing goes for aisle seats, yeah they are nice but i would much prefer to have a window.

Having flown Row 1 Blue Zone on a flight where Seat 1A was a big bloke, 1B was me, 1C was my 'muscular' travel companion, I'm more than happy to forgo the extra legroom and chat up possibilities with the crew. Give me a normal row with the B seat free and I'm happy!

The fixed armrests, reduced width and fold out trays are quite annoying when you have three blokes in a row.
