Again my assumtion getting the better of me. As Driver had said it was an Award seat and I noted from the profile they are a QFF member. I know how quick of the mark (atleast every one I hae done) QF are at Ticketing (and taking points and +++ form CC) after booking. SO thought the NOV-MAY safety margin was not worth mentioning. (In relation to delay from booking to ticketing)

Re: Now a $15 service fee for 1st checked bag.

We'll see when we fly - AA has changed our plans 3 times now, but as I said, original booking was Nov 2007 - not concerned - it was just new to me - I expect we'll be fine. It's interesting though - any sign of Australian airlines doing this? We get two checked bags each flying internationally with Qantas - this gives us plenty of shopping opportunities! Thanks for clarifying - not always the quickest cab off the rank here!

I have found it often depends on haw far in advance any such booking is made.

These days, I make very few award flight bookings; the last was early this year for travel early next year. Even though I had seats selected a PNR at al; the points and were not charged until about six weeks after making the original booking.

Yes Virgin is implementing a fee to have checked luggage. It will be $8 to prepay checked luggage and $20 to pay for checked luggage at check-in. It has been covered in another thread.

I think Jetstar and Tiger have similar fare structures for checked luggage.

Not quite; Jetstar have a "light" fare which has no checked luggage allowance for $10 less domestic than the discount fare. With DJ, even the discount fare now has an additional charge for checked luggage.

$50 for the second bag now...

United Airlines said on Monday it is doubling the fee to check a second bag on a domestic flight from $25 to $50 one-way.

United estimated the fee will apply to only one out of seven customers.

The fee will not apply to customers in the United First or United Business programs, those with Premier status with United or Star Alliance, or active duty military personnel traveling on orders.
