MEL to SIN, BKK and Tokya 20000

    Hi all,

I have just flown back from the US and joined mileage plus prior to leaving. When I got home I looked at mileage plus site to see how far or to the point not so far I could go with this amount.

I placed into the BKK and low and behold you can get to Bangkok for 20000 points but the travel is via USA and Tokyo all on United metal. It is the same for Singapore and Tokyo

If that is the route I thought to myself is it possible to have a stop over at any of the ports. From the United web site it says

En route stopovers: No stopovers are permitted on awards wholly within a geographic region. Awards between regions allow one stopover. ’Round-The-World awards allow a maximum of five stopovers.

One stopover en route to your final destination or one open jaw is permitted for a flight award on United between the continental U.S. and Hawaii or between the U.S. and the Caribbean, Asia, Australia, Central America, South America, Middle East or Europe. No stopovers are permitted within a geographic region.

The route is between two regions.

I haven't proceeded with a booking as I only have 17000 points. Need to find a way of getting some more or purchasing the 3000.

Has anyone had any luck with this before

    Big G

It wont be allowed since greatly exceeds maximum permitted mileage (MPM). UA MP, while zone based does use MPMs to control routing.

    Hi Big G,

Just checked the UA website and that offer seems to have disappeared. You should have purchased the miles and booked it when you had the chance.

It should have been 140,000 miles.
