I'm looking forward to New Majestic more than St Regis. I wasn;t the one who booked the St Regis, just sharing the room with someone and he'd booked the St Regis for the Starpoints (I mean...the alternatives are the LM or the Sheraton, both gross in Singapore). New Majestic is a trendy design hotel, whilst St Regis looks hideously fuddy duddy. I really do **dislike** the whole old world charm thing, and even then the St Regis Singapore seems v wannabe 'old world' unlike other hotels with the same theme like Raffles.

I hope you're not disappointed with the New Majesitc. It's probably not quite a 5* star hotel, and it does have it's good points and bad points.
On the downside the rooms are fairly small (depending I guess on the type of room you've booked nevertheless make good use of available space) and can be a little noisy (depending on if you are on the bar side of the hotel). It also gets some negative reviews (on tripadvisor) for its breakfast, although I find it perfect for what I want when staying for business it does have a realtively small selection, so I understand those on holidays who have hours at the disposable to graze on mountains of food would be disappointed. Oh, and given this if a FF website no FF points ....
On the upside great design, friendly boutique hotel feel (with only 30 rooms) , great bar and restaurant, good location (it's not in Orchard -yay - probably a bit unfair but I liken staying at Orchard to staying at Chadstone), very close to the MRT, free brekky/broadband/soft mini-bar (probably not important for you - but does allow me to justify staying there when we have lower corporate rates - room only -at the Le Meridien! And a little personal plus ... I find the quilt/doona/duvet on the beds perfect. I always struggle with quilts in tropical climes - usually end up asking for a flat sheet for the bed, but not at the New Majestic.
I've just booked in for my third (and fourth) stays at the property over the next two weeks, so on balance, I do prefer it to many other Singapore hotels, and do prefer it to the Scarlet which is another modern boutique Chinatown hotel.
Re: City hops on Qantas/Cathay Pacific/Singapore Airlines
I have stayed at the New Majesitc, Scarlet and 1929, i would agree the New Majesitc is the pick of the 3 and then Scarlet and 1929 only if you have one of the best rooms or with the private spa.
I do like the little hotels in Singapore for a nice change.
Oh well let us know your review once you stay Also i guess one reason i rated them down is the location for me is not as easy to get to where my work, good if your not working int he suburbs though.
So St Regis is old world, i had never looked in side the place but that is completely not what i expected from the outside, it looked really modern and trendy.... then again there is always a couple of bentlys waiting or dropping people off so maybe i should have guessed the clients by the cars.

Location is great for me as it's walking distance to where I'd hang out for tipples...

St Regis and Luxury Collection are Starwood's 'old world' brands. There are exceptions of course, such as the uber modern St Regis SF.

Anyhoo, in Singapore, The Spending Machine and I lodge at the Naumi Hotel. 40 rooms, all decorated in what I'd describe as "contemporary, pan-Asian" style. It's in the CBD, and they'll send a car to pick you up at the airport if you want. They also have a large collection of rare and special Whisky in the bar...

Am actually turning 23 this year, finishing my final yr of Arts/Law. And scheming to avoid reality by looking at poli sci honours and/or grad school....
Anyhoo am in SIN now. St Regis was too opulent and ornate for my liking as I suspected, service was nice but a bit too much (i wont be surprised if they followed me into the toilet and wiped my arse if I asked them to). taipeiflyer, Chase (his cousin) and I had an entourage greeting us or sending us off whenever we appeared at the lobby lol. Waiting for my folks to pick me up and we're heading across to Malaysia to catch up with rellies. Should be quite free over the next 2 weeks so TR updates will be speedier.

Oh... Did I say 27? I meant 21...
Sorry, I should save my snide remarks for more deserving targets. I try so hard not to be harsh, but it's all I know!
