Queensland Mining Towns Tour Jan 2008

The time is near. Tomorrow to be exact. I think we are all aware of the flood problems facing Western Queensland right now and my heart goes out to all who have been affected.

This tour was planned in September, booked in October and under constant review since then. I was lucky that I was able to book some very cheap QF flights on special and I will test the QF status credit accumulator with the same flight number on more than one route per day. I will need to pass some challenges along the way if this tour is to be a success. This was always going to be the case regardless of the weather.

I will be staying in a Hilton, a Holiday Inn, a Best Western, a Golden Chain motel, hopefully a dry motel in Emerald and a night on a bus in a 14 hour bus trip. In all there are 17 flight sectors, 5,336 flight miles, 195 SCs and I will earn 17,790 QFF points. I will be visiting 16 airports in QLD of which 14 will be a first for me and there are 4 bus trips planned. I like the service on Qantaslink and Dash 8's and the highlight should be the milk run CNS-TSV-MKY-ROK-GLT-BNE. I have looked forward to this route ever since I learned what a status run meant.

I hope you enjoy this trip report and if anyone has any questions I will be more than happy to answer them for you. As I will have some spare time in the BNE QP during this trip I will try to update the trip report as my trip progresses.
