Jal Sin-kul

Having used MH several times on the SIN-KUL and return, this trip has been booked as a DAS13 fare and so I am using JAL for the SIN-KUL segment. So here are a few points for anyone else taking this sector (and I will fill in more details after I have arrived in KUL).

The JAL flights operate from SIN Terminalo 1, the same as QF, BA and CX flights.

Check-in opens 2.5 hours before scheduled departure and uses row 11 counters which are at the D gates end of the terminal) other end from QF).

I was the first to check-in at SIN for this flight and have SEQ 19. So there are no more than 18 people continuing on from the inbound flight from Japan, so I am expecting its going to be a pretty quiet flight.

As a business class passenger, I was given an invitation to the SATS Premier lounge. This lounge is at the top of the escalator near the QF J lounge and before you get to the QF F lounge.

Knowing I have access to the QF J lounge as well, I thought I would have a look at the SATS lounge for comparison. The food on offer here at the SATS lounge is a big step ip from the QF F lounge. There is a choice of 3 hot dishes (noodles, black pepper beef, and a chicken and rice dish), plus soup, chinese dim sum and pork buns, and sandwhiches). There are also individual salads with choice of dressing. Lots of sweets and Haagan Dazs ice cream. Certainly plenty for a good meal.

Drinks selection is pretty basic but ok. Beers include Tiger, Carlsberg, Heineken, Asahi and Kirin. Scotch is JW Black and Gin is Gordons.

There are 9 computers that seem to have good internet performance.

Overall, this is quite a good lounge for a short-haul flight.

I am not returning through SIN so won't be taking the return flight. It was one segment of a DAS13 Circle Asia fare. My return is KUL-HKG-NRT-BNE.

Re: Jal Sin-kul

The JAL service is typically Japanese, with great respect shown for the passengers and lots of bowing.

The flight time was 30 mins. Unlike the MH operated flights I have used previously, JAL does not offer a bar service or food. Just soft drinks and a pack of fermented soybeans and rice crackers.

After landing and before leaving the aircraft, the J passengers were handed an invitation to use the Premier Lane for immigration processing. When I got to the lane there were about 4 people in front of me, which was obviously going to be quicker than the 400 people in the normal visitor's queue. I left the invitation in my pocket when I approached the counter just to see if the immigrations agent would ask for it. She did not. She just looked at my PP and stamped it. So that pass goes into my travel wallet (along side another uncollected on from CX) for any future arrivals when I may need them.

The seats in J were typical non-motor controlled cradle seats. They were certainly comfortable enough for a 30 min flight, but I would not like to be sitting in them for an 8-hour overnight flight. Certainly not as nice as a QF dreamtime. So if these are the same JAL J seats as used on the NRT-BNE flight, I am happy to stick with my QF 763 NRT-CNS-BNE in a few weeks time.

There were about 8 people in the J cabin for this flight.

Re: Jal Sin-kul

Arhhhh, thats very useful info, i forgot they were still using old config planes on that route.... I was booking today a flight to KIX in a couple of weeks but only in whY, but i was also planing on starting my DONE4 on this flight, maybe the NRT option is better, just a cheap connecting flight or rail trip !

NM, your a gem... just checking D class for my trip in a few weeks, may just get lucky and could use a DAS13 for the same money just about as seperate economy trips ! Fingers crossed although i wont hold my breath.... Now to see if i can re-arrange my holidays to make it also fit.
