Day 1:
QF605 BNE-MEL: Seat 4A (whY)
Ok, first of all I have to declare that I hate MEL. Always have and always will. Growing up in sub-tropical coastal Northern NSW in Byron Bay, the dreary horrible cold MEL weather and sterile city buildings just dont do it for me (sorry Melbournites!). [disclosure: I have lived in SYD the past three years and now live in BNE so rivalry may have something to do with it too].
Why I chose to fly to MEL on the morning of an important meeting I do not know. Mornings and myself do not get along very well and when I have to wake up at 0400 to make a 0600 flight Chooms does not have a good day (just ask those I had a five hour meeting with in MEL).
Arrive at BNE with just over an hour to spend in the new QF Dom J Lounge. Just had carry on so straight through security and up the escalators to find a most peculiar sight - the strangest line up for a QP.
Now it beats me why the BNE QP does not open before 0500 given that its first flight boards at 0525 to Biloela or some other mining town and then has flights to SYD and MEL that board at 0540 but I digress.
The line up outside the QP was one of the most strangest moments of human observation that I have encountered. Basically two lines down each side of the 'hallway' all the way down past the newsagency. There was a gap of about 4 - 5 metres between each person. Eye contact was rarely made between anyone and any staff movement towards the QP door was met with a flurry of excitement of people picking up bags only to put them back down again after the tease of the staff member who adjusts the indoor foliage then moves back behind the desk.
Finally opens the doors and to my surprise, majority of people are ushered into the QP while only about four of us head into the J lounge.

Next.... BNE Dom J Lounge
Not to hijack your thread but i noticed a very small number of people night before last in the MEL QF Flounge and i would have thought a lot more WP would be able to use it.... hmmmm Maybe people are not aware of what they get access to lets keep it that way.
I also grew up in Lismore, Lennox, Ballina so i know what you mean, but now i call Melbourne/Singapore home.

Ok, the flight was pretty uneventful. Despite there being plenty of J seats available the night before the flight, J was full bar 1. Must have been a few ODU's - definately no op-ups as whY was half full.
Served the continental brekkie, although after stuffing myself silly with pancakes and fruit in the BNE Dom J lounge I politely declined but kept the coffee cup as one cannot have too much coffee when catching a 0600 flight!
We had quite a strong headwind down to MEL so we ended up landing about 15mins late.
