I have been a dedicated QF and JQ man in OZ for a long time, mainly as work is always with them and I can access the lounges, check in and all the other QFF status perks.

I had a trip to the gold coast on the weekend with Mrs Batesy, it was with her work so we flew Virgin Blue.

I must say that they have come a long way in the last 5 years.

Checked in on-line, simple. Then went to "The Lounge". I was very impressed. Food was fresher and more abundant than the QF J lounge or Qantas club. Great decor, plenty of comfy seats, the bar opens at 11 which is a huge difference to QF. Barista service was available when we there on a Saturday so had a hot chocolate. Friendly and efficent young lady.
Its as good, possibly better than the QF lounges.

I can't remember the flight numbers, however both flights left their ports on time. Our landing into OOL was on time and our return to Sydney was delayed due to ATC slowing us down and weather in Sydney.

The live to air sytem is great, only used it one way to watch the footy on foxtel (AFL). But good value at $4.90
The FA's were efficent, although still a bit cheesey with the jokes. "NSW govt has strict regulations on food being brought in to the state, particularly any chocolate which should be handed to your cabin crew"

I have priority pass courtesy of AMEX charge card so may consider using them instead of JQ as I can then use the lounge when flying to non QF ports.

In summary, my thoughts on DJ have changed in the positive direction.

    Batesy.

Thank you for the review Batesy. I am flying DJ for the first time on Saturday because there was a massive price difference between them and QF on SYD-HTI for our own little mini-break. I too have a Priority Pass courtesy of AMEX so I will now look forward to The Lounge and the experience in general with less trepidation thanks to your review!
