Platinum Charge Card - Travel Insurance: Exclusions

I was just re-reading the fine print for the Complimentary Travel Insurance which is included with the AMEX Platinum Charge Card.

I was a little concerned with the effect of one of the general exclusions of the policy. The exclusion (on page 25 & 26 of the Assistance and Assurances Booklet) basically means that there is practically no coverage, definitely no medical coverage, if a loss is caused by a terrorist act.

To me this makes the entire travel insurance policy worthless. Insurance for medical costs incurred as a result of a terrorist act seems to be a MUST??

Reading a few other credit card policies I notice that they mostly don't cover a loss caused by a terrorist act. HOWEVER, QBE's standard travel insurance does include coverage for medical expenses etc incurred as a result of a terrorist act.

I believe AMEX need to immediately deal with this issue. I wonder how many cardmembers who relied on this insurance knew about this limitation.
I spoke to someone from their premium cardholder customer complaints and she basically said she would bump it up however don't expect any action soon (months), because no-one had raised it before.

Of course I am knocking on wood that nothing happens when I travel, but i think in the current climate it is only prudent to have coverage in case the worst happens.

As you say most insurance policy's or atleast the cheap ones exclude these things... thats life really, i agree it could be better but then again its upto people to make the decision thenselves.

The real problem is most people do not read and understand the policys.
