MATURE AGE TRAVEL iNSURANCE

Not sure if this a new thread, but couldn't seem to be able to post a question. Any information for travel insurance for older travellers ( ages 81 and 77) going to Europe and no pre-existing illnesses. Those that don't cut out at 70 or so charge double or triple the standard ratres. Seems a bit high! Any ideas??

I am doubtful that you will find a cheap travel insurance policy covering health when you are over 70.However it does depend where in Europe you are going.If to the UK we have reciprocal rights with the NHS so you will still get medical care.There are other european countries that have some form of reciprocal arrangements-Italy I am sure is one.I suggest that you get in touch with the HIC and get details of what is available.Then you will only need a basic policy for theft,cancellation etc.
For everyone you should always read the fine print and see what is covered.The number of kiwis i have seen,thinking that they were covered by their travel insurance when all that is offered is treatment in a public hospital which they are entitled to anyway,is amazing.

It seems that travel insurance for the over 70's goes in "steps"... 70-72,72-74 etc (actual divisions probly vary.. that is how the company my mum uses does it) and YES, it IS expensive.... I don't think there is any way around that unfortunately...

For an 81 year old I suspect it will be VERY pricey...

I can only offer one small tip.... try to ensure that the travel period does not JUST hit a more expensive "bracket".... eg: 32 days might well price the same as 60 fr'instance....

They are quoting $512.50 for an 81y.o and a 77y.o for up to 16 days in Europe. Don't know how it compares with others, but it does not seem too bad to me
