Yes - this seems to make the best combination for a credit card arrangement for *A in Australia is now:

Amex Rewards Maximiser (or one of their Platinum credit/charge cards) - 1.5 Krisflyer points per dollar.
Citibank Visa Gold/Platinum - 0.66 Krisflyer points per dollar.

As I'm getting the Citibank Gold fee free for life (expired deal) and getting the Amex annual fees refunded (due to spend), I'm getting *A points on a rewards program about a billion times better than QF's program, and for no annual fees.

This has been fantastic - finally, I'm going back to Krisflyer.

BearDoc -I agree. I've only ever been with Qantas and truly love the service I receive, but their arrogance of their anyseat program has pushed me over to KrisFlyer. And the more I look into it, the better it gets - AUS-UK return in first - 230k I think -v- 380 at Q. But I can get seats on Singapore almost any day - but Qantas it's a year away if at all.

SingAir have some curious rules - cannot backtrack and cannot one way on Star Alliance partners but overall, there's just no comparison.

I assume though that someone at SingAir who has negotiated the Amex deal has made an error and when they see the likely flood of redemptions, something has gotta give!

Can you offer any experience with the Waitlisting - it appears just a safety net so they don't lose cash bookings as tomorrow or next day there are seats available but in a month they are waitlisted - is that your experience?

Yes, but the loss in conversion to AA from Amex -> SPG -> AAdvantage means that (other than up to 30th September this year), it isn't such an appealing deal, particularly since there's no way to get points accrued on Visa Cards into AAdvantage (whereas now there is with Krisflyer).

In addition, if I was flying SYD/LHR, I'd prefer to do it on SQ over QF anyday.

Just remember with the CitiBusiness (as opposed to Citibank) Gold Credit Card you can get 1.25 points per dollar spent - the best points earning Visa/MC out there that I'm aware of. So ends up giving you 0.83 KF points per dollar - not too shabby at all.

The Citibusiness Gold Card has the possibility of a points cap at 80,000 points per year, as opposed to 60,000 for the Citibank Gold and 120,000 for Citibank Platinum.

No experience here - the only flight I have ever redeemed with Krisflyer is a SYD-(LAX-)-DCA-(surface to BOS-)SFO-SYD on United (*A award, with Economy Plus all the way by virtue of being Singapore Airlines Krisflyer Silver at the time. This was back in 2001. I remember it was painless though - I got my flights first time about three months in advance back then.
