    infants in J/F

We are having our first child soon - and from what I can ascertain, travelling with an infant (less than 2 years, not occupying a seat) is not an option in SQ J/F.

I know I can purchase a seat at 100% of the adult rate, but that is ridiculous if the baby is 3 months old.

Am I correct that QF allows an infant in J/F @10% of the adult rate, whereas SQ do not? This will have a major impact on my choice of airlines.

As far as I am aware infants less than 2 go free if not occupying a seat but from personal expereience you may want to purchase them a seat once they hit 1 as you will be standing for a long time otherwise!! Just request the bassinet seat. No guarentees you will get it so beware

I have been looking into this a fair bit recently. On SQ they can sit on your lap for 10% of the adult price.

    Are you sure?

When I try a booking on the SQ website:

    Y Class - infants are 10%
J Class - infant comes up at the same price as the adult.
F Class - infants comes up at 10%

I don't know if this is a bug in their booking system. I used a MEL-SIN one way booking as a test. 1 adult, 0 children, 1 infant

No not sure, but I was reading about redeeming award tickets with an infant, and apparently the process is to book the adult award ticket online and then call to add the infant and pay 10% of the adult fare. So it might be worth giving them a call?

Quick check of the rules on the SQ website found this for the 'C' class fares it was throwing up

CHD/INF DISCT DO NOT APPLY.UNACCOMPANIED CHD/INF UNDER 12 NOT PMTD.
Best I can tell, the infant is assigned a seat.

Just had a look on Expertflyer - looks like it varies depending on the destination. Every destination that I checked other than Singapore allows an infant to travel for 10% of the adult fare.

I can't speak for expect flyer because I don't use it (obviously don't have the need with having GDS access), but i'm not sure how accurate the information they have is.

I checked a range of destinations SE Asia, JNB, LON and all stated no discounts for children/infants.

Looks like it's across the board to me.

Some airlines discourage infants in the premium cabins - LH is one of these.

QF on the other hand bends over backwards to help with bassinets, baby food etc.
