The notional value of each prize is approximately A$14,526 based on a sample of the flight awards that could be obtained by redeeming the Prize Points through the Qantas Frequent Flyer program
Interesting that in the t&cs they value FF points at 1.426 cents each.
Now if QFs award redemption rates emulated the value QF places on a QFF point we would be getting good value out of the QFF program.
I'm not so sure that's right. Just based on one example of a business reward BNE - ADL 24000 points @1.426 cents = $342. Yet to buy the fare it's about $1000?
I guess it all depends on how you look at it. If you believe that a BNE-ADL business class airfare is worth $1000 then that is the value you place on QFF points. Some people think upgrades from WHY to business are best value. Generally economy airfares are very poor value which is where I place the value on QFF points. YMMV.
A SYD-BNE return in WHY is 16,000 QFF points + ~$100 in taxes and surcharges. Excluding sale airfares the return airfare would cost ~$246 which would make the value of a QFF point 0.9125c.
Similarly a SYD-SIN return in WHY is 60,000 + ~$500 in taxes and surcharges. Normally this airfare would be ~$1200 which would make the value of a QFF point 1.1667c.
When you put it that way, yes they should give better value for economy. The poor value of an economy fare is highlighted by the lack of points upgrades for the cheap economy fares. This is hard for me as I don't value an upgrade chance ADL-BNE at $200+, which says how I value the business product on that route.
I'm increasing coming to the conclusion that they should value points by giving status for award flights. I'm giving QF business that has a monetary value, why shouldn't my flying be recognised by status, at least? (a philosophical question, I do understand the rules on this point)
