Re: QF club question

I think what he's saying, is that it's not really complimentary, when you have paid for it (either through fares or membership) ?

Other than that, not sure what he means.

Re: QF club question

Hi,

I have come to the conclusion that if this letter is the biggest problem he has, all is well in his world.

Paid or earnt, who cares, just order another beer and watch the world go past.

Re: QF club question

Don't forget that as a Gold/Plat you do get extra lounge benefits besides QC. QC members only get access to AA/BA lounges outside of Australia, but Golds get access to all oneworld Business lounges and Plats get access to First lounges.

So yes there is some overlap with your QC life membership, but it's not exactly the same thing.

I am aware that Qantas adjusts the "congratulatory" letter, which it sends out to Qantas Club members -

i.e. the following is inserted "...you will continue to enjoy complimentary membership of the Qantas Club... Should your complimentary membership expire, we will send you a new Qantas Club card... for what remains of your paid Qantas Club membership."

I am surprised that Qantas doesn't further segment the database, for lifetime Club members - by adding prose that first acknowledges their lifetime membership, and then the additional benefits of their (transient) status.

However, the OP doesn't feel the letter received denotes this.

If someone is qualifying every year (for the last 10) at Gold/Platinum, is a lifetime Qantas Club member and takes the time to write to Qantas about this issue... well, why should Qantas do anything?

I realise the Qantas sycophants out there think that mediocrity is professionalism, I wait with interest to see how the new CEO's "customer service refocus" will impact all areas of their business.

I don't see anything wrong with the letter

The OP purchased Qantas Club membership ( albeit lifetime )

The OP attained Gold status ( or silver pre 2001 recolouring )

On Attaining this status the paid Qantas Club membership was suspended

The COMPLIMENTARY membership via status was activated

Until such time ( if ever ) that the member drops below Gold, the membership that he is holding is a complimentary one at which time he would revert back to using remainder of the paid membership

The fact that the OP elected to purchase a membership with lifetime duration does not change the procedure

The letter sent is logically correct imo

This is such a trivial issue that I am not surprised that QF are treating it with the importance that they seem to be

If you mean the quotes from the letter I provided (for a - subscription member placed on hold) I agree.

However, I am not privy to what was in the OP's letter. Perhaps notsohappyhoward can -
  1. Post a quote of the actual letter on here.
  2. Point out the sections of the letter, that they feel belittle their investment in a lifetime Qantas Club membership.
  3. Offer some idea on rephrasing, that they think would be more appropriate
This may enable all of us to understand the OP's position a little better.

As for trivial... LOL. I hope that anyone at Qantas, who feels that way, starts to understand it's not about their feelings, its about their customers!

No , I mean that which the OP referred to

"letter saying qantas gives you complimentary membership"

This is the case. At Gold and Platinum, complimentary membership is provided and the paid membership is suspended.

The fact that the paid membership is lifetime does not take away from the fact that at the time of receiving the letter , the member is enjoying the complimentary membership any more than if it was someone with 6 months remaining on a paid membership

Re: QF club question

I'm another QFF who personally purchased Lifetime membership in 1997 and subsequently attained (and maintained) either Platinum or Gold and received a "complimentary" membership.

Like many others who have probably bought Lifetime membership, at the time I bought it (11 years ago) I didn't envisage a future when I would be flying quite as much as I have been. My original decision to buy it was to ensure that I could always access the QC when flying. Given I had paid for annual or 2 year passes for the first 10 years of my membership , I then spent the same amount at a single time to grant me the privilege of access for the rest of my life or the QC (whichever ends first ). I saw it as being a good deal for the cost.

If you are flying for work, then the amount paid is tax deductible (in my case, over 10 years). Sure if you are not claiming it as a tax deduction, one might have a different outlook.

Whether I have got access from my "paid" Lifetime membership or my "complimentary", I still feel that I have paid for it, given the revenue paid to QF every year and that it can hardly be considered "compimentary" - I see it as being built into the overall cost of revenue tickets.

Still, each to their own...
