Qantas Club - enhance chance of points upgrade?

Hi All,

I know there's the usual process through which updates are determined (ie. FF status and then length of time on the list). I am wondering however, if becoming a member of the Qantas Club might in anyway enhance my chances of getting a points upgrade?

Cheers,

Brett

PS - When I book flights I notice that some Red E-Deals are 'Eligible for Class Upgrade'. I thought generally these fares were not. Could someone explain for me?

Generally speaking international red e-deals have been known to be upgradable.

In terms of upgrade chances, it only improves slightly - you are basically on the same level as a PS.

WP -> SG -> PS = QC -> NB

it depends on your FF status now. If already Silver, the Qantas Club membership will not alter upgrade waitlist priority. If Bronze now, then it might help. But realistically the chances of a Bronze and even a Silver member scoring a waitlisted international upgrade are very low.

If you are QF NB or NN then joining QP should enhance your chances slightly. You will still be behind any CL, WP, SG & PS, but in front of NB and NN in the pecking order.

Currently, only flights booked in N, Q & O classes are ineligible for upgrade requests.

Not all red e-deals book into these classes.

For example, when booking online, the WHY fares trans Pacific generally come in 4 "Categories": "Sale", "Red e-Deal", "Super Saver" & "Flexi Saver".

The "Sale" fares generally book into N class; so no upgrades, the "Red e-deal" books into V class with the others currently booking into M & H class respectively.

Actually, our kiwi frind mey be slitly jitlegged.

To be pedantic it's thus:
Quote:
NB = Nufin' Bronze
PS = Plebian Silver status
SG = Scum Gold status
WP = W@nker Platinum status
Also, NN is Nufin' nufin'

More here: Abreviations and Explanations
(Thanks to Lindsay Wilson, Blacknox et al ...)

Re: Qantas Club - enhance chance of points upgrade?

Hi All,

I'm now looking at booking the SIN - FRA and FRA - SIN legs in Business Class so that I don't have to worry about the upgrade. This means I will still have to purchase a return MEL - SIN. Should I book them separately (ie. SIN - FRA - SIN through the online award system), the MEL - SIN - MEL through the normal international booking system. Will this mean I get through checked and the segments combined, or will I need to ring Qantas and ask them to combine the flights as if they were one continuous flight??

It's just that the connection times are tight and I don't particularly want to have to go through customs at Changi only to turn around, check-in again and come back through when I could be having a nice hot shower in the QP

Cheers,

Brett

Re: Qantas Club - enhance chance of points upgrade?

When on separate tickets on QF, as long as MCT is met (and sometimes even if not) the checked baggage is through tagged. You probably won't get the onward BPs though, so need to pick up at SIN (hopefully before check in closes).

You can also contact QF to get an information segment added to each of your itineraries showing the connection - but this will not protect you in the event of misconnection (just makes it more obvious to QF where you are coming from).
