    MEL-SYD-SIN advice

    Dear all,

My wife and I will be travelling from MEL-SYD-SIN in January next year. I will be travelling in business class all the way, but my wife will be in First class. When we check in at the domestic airport in Melbourne for MEL-SYD leg, can we checked through our baggages all the way to SIN? We will be carrying a lot of luggages and it would be make it a lot easier.

From my understanding of reading this very informative forum, I could access the newly opened First class lounge in Sydney together with my wife since she is on first class. My wife will also be calling in to book her complimentary 50mins massage one day before departure Since I'm a nobody with Qantas, I will not get a massage.

My wife and I would like to truly enjoy the luxury of this flight, thus any useful information are welcome.

    Thank you.

    Aaron

I will assume you are flying QF, or BA, then you can check your luggage all the way to SIN.

If for some reason you are flying Jetstar or Virgin MEL-SYD then you will not be able to check your luggage all the way to SIN. You will need to collect in SYD and check in for SYD-SIN flight.

As your wife is travelling First Class she is entitled to bring in one guest.

True, but you can drink all the champagne your heart desires.

Given tey are in J all the way - I reckon it is a safe assumption that it is QF at least to SYD

There are conflicting reports about the massage availability for non F pax - certainly you could get a facial and ask if a masssage is available.

Enjoy it - it will be a fantastic trip I have done SYD-SIN in F and the service was great

    Welcome to AFF Aaron.

I must say you're handling it well with your wife in F class and all. The boys have both offered some excellent advice but have you considered applying for an upgrade? Seen as you're a "nobody", it's probably better if someone else applied for you. What FF status is your wife? Also, if short of points, it might be worth applying for one of the Amex cards going around at the moment that offer plenty of bonus points (40,000 on one but is quite expensive). This might give you enough points to join her. It's 25,000 points to apply but you won't know until ~24 hours before you fly. You'll also need to be on an upgradeable ticket (so not an award) and on the QF flight number.

Most of all though, enjoy the flights and the FLounge.

    Cheers,

    Re: MEL-SYD-SIN advice

    Hi all,

Thanks for all the great replies. I'm sorry that I have forgotten to include in our flight info. Both our tickets are award tickets booked from Cathay Asiamiles. Her journey starts from SIN-SYD-MEL return in QF First, and mine is one way from MEL-SYD-SIN in QF Business. I would love to join her in F, but there are no awards seat left. I will be hoping that another award seat in F opens up since my deadline of ticketing is next month. If not, there might be a possibility that my wife would want to exchange seat with the person seated next to me in business. Lucky him/her then.

Also, the reason for taking an indirect route via SYD is because there is no availability from SIN-MEL-SIN. My wife and I are both SQ Krisflyer member. We have plenty of miles in Cathay due to transfer from credit card. All up, the F cost 90k and J (one-way) cost 35k. This is before the impending rise in redemption tickets.

One last question, how long do you think I should allow ourselves to fully enjoy the dining, massage and etc in F lounge since there is plenty of flights from MEL into SYD. Our flight from SYD-SIN departs at 5.50pm and I believe we have to arrive earlier since the massage closes at 5pm.

simongr, I might just try to see if I can get facial while my wife is having her massage.

Thank you very much everybody! Cheerssss.

    Aaron

No problems you should be able to check your luggage all the way through to SIN.

I would aim to arrive to the SYD F lounge around 2:00pm-2:30pm. As your wife will require around 50 minutes for the massage and you will need around 30-60 minutes for the dining experience depending on how busy it gets in the F lounge or how much you want to eat and then some time to relax. Don't forget that you will probably need to leave the lounge for boarding at around 5:00pm anyway.

I may be wrong but I thought only First Class passengers and Oneworld Emeralds, more specifically QF Platinum, can book the spa treatments.

You are sort of right JohnK - only F pax can book treatments but I think anyone can ask for treatments on arrival - so gtting in early is probably a good plan.

One tip though - don't fill up on dinner in the lounge - you can eat on board and F is pretty nice
