Japan + Europe

Hi
I am looking to visit Japan & Austria (Skiing).
Using QF & BA I need to use Heathrow as a gateway.
Any suggestions fpr something more direct.

Qantas flies to Frankfurt - but there is no OW (One World) flight directly linking FRA and VIE (Vienna). Otherwise if you dont want to transit LHR there is AY (Finnair) via BKK (Bangkok) and HEL (Helsinki).

If you're okay giving up one world mileage, Austrian flies direct (one stop) between Australia and Vienna.

I will be in Tokyo & Innsbruck.
I have no problem taking a train Innsbruck - Frankfurt (I dont need to be in Vienna).
My problem is getting from Tokyo to Europe without using Heathrow.
I would prefer getting some points for the trip, by keeping it OneWorld.
Also, what is the approx QF upgrade cost ($) to business for the Singapore to Mascot return.

I think my best option may be:
QF Syd - Tokyo
BA Tokyo - LHR
BA LHR - Munich (train - Innsbruck - Frankfurt)
QF FRA - Singapore - Mascot

Finnair flies to Tokyo so you could do NRT-HEL-VIE/MUC.

When does JAL become part of OneWorld again?

Could that help?

AFAIK that date has not yet been announced. I wouldn't expect any time soon - at least six months.

My brother is actually snowboarding in Stubai (outside of Innsbruck) as we speak. Probably very close to where you are going.

As he flew to AMS for a conference first, his routing is no use. He ended up flying to Munich and getting a train to Innsbruck. I've also done that same journey by train, so was painless.

Perhaps you may look at either:

QF to FRA and Eurail to Innsbruck
QF to FRA, then FRA/VIE, then Eurail to Innsbruck
QF to FRA, then FRA/MUC, then Eurail to Innsbruck

The first one is the longest Eurail sector, thus the longest time spent getting there (unless transit at FRA makes 2 and 3 longer). Personally, I'd go number 3 (but that's because I have friends in MUC and can speak enough of the language to get by).

BA to LHR

SAS to Cophenhagen
