First F experience

My wife and I managed to get 2 upgrades into F from SIN to SYD on QF32 (day flight).

This was the first time we travelled in First Class.

Mixed reactions about the flight....

1. The seat looks extremely dated, but it is more comfortable than the business sky bed seat.

2. The TV is smaller than on the biz sky bed.

3. The over head lockers are very small and extremely old (difficult to close as the lock kept jamming)

4. Service was great at the beginning, then non-existent after about 2 hours. They don't even come around and top up water (this is done even in domestic business). Also, the flight attendents look annoyed when u ask them for something. It's like we are bothering them from their conversation in the galley. Very insincere service. The call button doesn't seem to do anything, easier to walk to the galley and get water yourself.

5. No ammenity bags were offered. Passengers had to keep asking for them and the bags are worse than the old biz kits we got from SYD to NRT.

6. The food was so-so. I have noticed this when flying Qantas from SIN. Maybe its a SIN catering issue. Much better food when flying Biz from Australia.

7. Fantastic that you can order food whenever you like from the all-day dining menu.

8. All the crew baggage and some biz bags were delivered before First bags at SYD airport.

It was a worthwhile experience. But I won't be upgrading again until after Qantas update their F cabin.

Re: First F experience

Having only ever visited F for an hour and a half at the end of a flight for landing i can agree with most things you have said except the service, but that can change flight to flight.

Not sure how muct it really cosst though, i seemed to see that F is not that much more than J, until the 744's get a refit after some 380's are delivered then this is just what to expect.

Are the 744ER's that fly to US much better ? i know they are newer.

Very sorry to hear you did not enjoy your first F experience as much as expected. I have only flown F once on a points upgrade SIN/MEL, and my experience was very different. The lie flat beds were great and the service was fantastic, right through the flight. If it was evident that you were awake, the FAs would visit reasonably regularly to see if you needed anything. I never had to press the call button or go and find them. The food was great, but best of all the wine selections were superb .

One advantage you have of course is that you will not feel the strong desire to fly F each time you fly, and so won't be as envious as I am of those in the front cabin as I trudge upstairs to J (not really, J is quite adequate, just F is that further step up).
