Early SG or WP re-assessment...QF's at it again
Seems that another WP just got comped status well short of the re-qual mark....it was still showing 28 Feb 2006 yesterday when I was checking my flights, but today is a different story:
Current Status: Platinum
Status reassessment will occur: 28 Feb 2007
Status credits earned from 01 Mar 2005: 405
I wonder if they looked at my 5 paid bookings in the system and said "well he's going to get there anyway, let's renew him early".
Great, now to prove to them I can do it by actually flying the re-qual level anyway...with qualifying flights of QF BNE/LAX/BNE (in H class) and AA LAX/DFW/MIA, MBJ/MIA/SFO (in A class), then BNE/PER/ADL/SYD/BNE (all K class) and PER/KGI/PER and PER/BME/PER (all O class).
Now, who else has been comped early to SG or WP this year?? My brother was comped early to SG (but wasn't far short and had 3 return flights to either SYD or MEL in K or above in system).

Congratulations Lindsay. As you note, you were always going to make it anyway. This is exaclty as it happened for me the year before last. New card arrived 2 months befofre end of year while I was still a few hundred SCs short and I ended up on 1240 SCs for the year.
I do not consider this strange or unusual. QF assess status 2-3 months before anniversary date for a few reasons, and I assume the major one is so they have time to print and post the new kit to you before your anniversary date.
The alternate is to do it as some USA airlines do, where they work on a calendar year for status, but provide the 2-3 months overlap at the beginning of the next year. So status is calculated on the calendar year and valid until the end of Fed or March the following year.
Personally, I like the QF method where each person has their own membership year.
Not really surprised (a) soften the blow of May changes (remember QF being good more recently than the older bad news), and (b) hold onto any waivering Velocity converts.
Well I've got 80 more SC's to go for Plat for the first time.
I might do another flight next week to hit another 40 in a flight next week (haven't decided on if I need to do it) and then i've got some Class S AA flights (4x10SCs) to make out the 80 SC's I need.
If I get pre comped to Plat (note: never plat b4) before I go to the USA then that will be great.
I think I'll give them a call tomorrow and ask them about it. I know that I'll definitely be flying before my Feb 28 2006 deadline to make up the status so there should be no issues but you never know.

I've seen this raised several times, but am yet to see someone pre-comped to Platinum. Yes people get comp'd when they are Plat, but not before.
Good luck though. If you can, do the extra flying to get you over the threshold before you head to the US. The bonus points on your trip (Assuming you're flying Qantas) plus the additional perks may just be worth it.

Well, I hadn't thought of checking Mrs LW (who has the same 28 Feb 06 status review date) as we've been posting all her flights to AA this year.
You can imagine my gobsmacked face when I saw this tonight:
Current Status: Silver
Status reassessment will occur: 28 Feb 2007
Status credits earned from 01 Mar 2005: 0
Thanks QF, although I don't know when we'll have any flights to post to there (as we're getting more points on AA, which are worth more to us anyway given our travels through USA shortly).
