Domestic Upgrade Awards (when transiting)

I'm flying SFO-SYD-BNE on a B class fare. I'd like to access the QF Domestic Club in SYD, but don't have access yet. Since B class is full economy on domestic, I can upgrade for only 5k points.

However, if my flight from SFO-SYD is late, I might not make it to the club at all, and may loose the points. Has anyone had this happen? I might see if I can arrange for a later flight from SYD-BNE if that's the case... There is only 95 mins between landing into SYD and departing to BNE.

To request an upgrade using your points you'll need to have an eligible paid and confirmed Qantas domestic ticket on a Qantas operated service with a QF flight number. Your upgrade is subject to availability and may be confirmed between 355 days and 24 hours in advance. Flight Upgrades cancelled within 24 hours of flight departure, or failure to board a booked flight, will result in the loss of the Flight Upgrade and any Points used to redeem the Flight Upgrade.
Flight Upgrades cancelled more than 24 hours prior to departure may be refunded and will incur a fee.
Flight Upgrade Awards are not available on airfares booked in N, O or Q class, which includes some Red e-Deal fares.

As far as I know the only place you can upgrade on the day of departure is in the QF club unless you do it online subject to avail. I did hear they are trialing offer of upgrades at the checkin kiosks but I didnt listen which city those trial kiosks are

If your inbound flight is late and you miss the connection then they will, I believe, rebook you in business when they rebook the onward flight, so you would not lose the poiints. If they did rebook you in economy, I doubt that you would have any difficulty getting the points refunded

With a 90 minute connection, assuming you have luggage, I wouldn't expect that you would have long in the QC before having to board, so if visiting the lounge is important, I would suggest booking a later onward connection
