I'm looking at going from Perth to Syd for Xmas (yes terrible timing I know) but the fares are very odd.

For example 21-Dec from per-syd, some of the flexible fares are more expensive than J

On 22-Dec, there is a Red-e-deal for $1,953

Other ones as well, Business is cheaper than economy. Why would you book Y?

Heavy time of year for Leisure travel =>
quite a bit of discount J availability +
high cost WHY availability.

That makes sense. I think that QF652 is in Business, and QF507 is in economy.

On Qantas that day, there are NO WHY seats available on any direct PER-SYD flight.

Routings are via AD/BNE/MEL, with via BNE being rather expensive.

I ahve noticed that sometimes if one of the sectors is on a red-e-deal, the whole thing gets called one.

Given QF652 PER-BNE is showing:

J4 D1 I0 B0 H0 K0 M0 R0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0 X0 E0

and QF507 is showing:

J7 D5 I0 B9 H9 K9 M9 R9 L9 V9 S9 N3 Q3 O0 X3 E0

We have a J fare to BNE and and N class onward to SYD ... hence a red e-deal.

Forget Xmas and Perth to Syd, try looking at SYD-BNE for next Monday, Jetstar is dearer than QF with one flight leaving the same time as QF!

I can see it now.. 'Now Jenkins, our travel policy is economy for Australia. I realise Business is cheaper, but we can't change the rules to suit ourselves, can we young Jenkins?"

So when I do a search, right now, for a one-way from Per-Syd on 22-Dec, the 9.45 flight Per-Adl-Syd is 1,922 for fully flexible but only 1,727 for business, that is "normal"?
