I am currently tring to book award seats in Europe in August. Preferably to Paris ,Rome or Frankfurt because l then need to travel on to Croatia. Availibility seems to be almost zero. Is this because they have all already been taken , or have they not been put up yet? If they have already been taken, do they realease more closer to the date? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thankyou

Yes, at a glance the cupboard seems bare! My guess is because its peak travel time to Europe. They would very likely have been put up and taken. No idea if they'll release more, or when.
Maybe you could consider trying availability with CX via HKG - may cost a few more points, and would need to check it with QF over the phone (and booking it would cost 2500 points for doing it over the phone).
August is peak travel period for people going to Europe. Its their summer period and we Aussies like to head that way during our winter. So the FF award seats heading to/from Europe during August always go early. I booked my August 2009 award flights in October 2008.
Now with the current lower demand for paid travel, we are seeing an increase in award availability as the airlines try to fill seats. So its possible some additional award availability will appear between now and August. However, there will be lots of other people also looking for it as they are in the same boat as you. So keep looking regularly and you may be in luck.
Also note that what is shown on the QF FF is not the full story regarding availability. For example it does not currently include Cathay Pacific award seat availability. CX award seats did pop up a few weeks back, but they seem to have disappeared again. The only way to book CX seats from QF FF is to call the service centre and pay the additional 2500 points assisted booking fee per ticket. But availability can be better since its not showing on QFF web site so people don't book them.

Thanks everybody for getting back.I have just spent an hour on the phone with qantas people. They came up with a circle one world award itinery that has about four stops before l even get to europe. Including Sydney, Toyko and then on to Budapest!!! Even though l have 400,000 points, l am considering using them for a return on Royal Jordanian to Amman and then to buy the rest of the flights that l need. Anybody have any suggestions regarding that? Also has anybody had any experience with " Europe Flight Passes" ie coupons woth $229 with get you between alot of European cities.
I was looking at award availability for 2 people to Europe in late August a few months back and it was very limited to almost non existent. So I decided to go via the USA and Canada. Availability also seems to be very limited coming back late September but I have managed to find some suitable dates.
Hopefully I will book this tonight before the award seats get snapped up....
