Award Fligths to Norfolk Island

Does anyone know if it is possible to book award flights to Norfolk Island, and if so how. I tried to look for availability on the QF website but it does not list as a destination in award bookings?

Is this because it is flown by Ozejet perhaps?

Reggie

Tried to make a booking on the Qantas website, Norfolk Island doesn't rate a mention. Had a play on Travel.com and got the following;

Departs:SYDNEY (SYD) Mar 04, 2007 10:25Arrives:NORFOLK ISLAND (NLK) Mar 04, 2007 13:20QF333|Economy|02hr 2min |732[* Operated by OZJET [O7] *]

Reggie,

A more important question is "why are you contemplating going to Norfolk Island". Been there, done that - not that there was much to do!

Described to me by the Customs Official who stamped my passport in Sydney as the Island for "Newly Weds and Nearly Deads". Unless you have a specific reason for going to Norfolk Island I would suggest that there a gazillion better places to travel to on an award flight.

But that is only my humble opinion!

You could be right, but she who must be obeyed would like to go there. Perhaps I can talk her out of it.

I was in the same situation when I was "told" I was going. Please, please try and talk her out of it.

If you do have to go, I'd be interested to know what you think when you return.

"She who must be obeyed" just put her head over my shoulder and said tell him it's good duty free shopping and you can see everything in 2 days.

You guys should all think yourself lucky ! the one i 'sometimes' have to answer to seems to think that J upgrades are more the go, or trips to Europe are a better use of 'MY' points. (Then again she has used her points for her last 2 trips to Japan).

Good to see a cutoms guys with a sense of humour

It's not really worth using points (or paying cash) to go to Norfolk Island

Look at bestflights.com.au or other online travel sites. There are always bargains for a week's accom (including flights) for not really that much more than you'd pay for the flights alone.

Accom + award tix would probably end up costing even more!

Eg: Australian Travel Agent : Best Flights - discount travel - Travel Agent Australia (although this doesn't look as cheap as it was last year)

[Oh and when you go, make sure you give us an OzJet report. Would be great to know what flying with them is like at the moment]

Re: Award Fligths to Norfolk Island

Had a friend that with them recently in WA, said was good, 737-200's are old of course, and noisier than the NG 737's but cabins were in good condition. Only other comment he had was that the staff seemed happy to be doing there job.

Lets hope Paul has found himself a way to make money out of his venture here at home.

Just because it isn't listed for online award bookings doesn't mean you can book awards, although does mean you will be hit up for assisted booking surcharge QFF have no current intention to list all the destinations online (or even expand the number of offerings), so be sure to provide feedback that you are unhappy to be charged more miles due to their system limitation (one which could easily be avoided) and lack of interest in improving it for their customers.

Now as to Norfolk Island, agree cheap destination and not much to it. I did a turnaround there and we spent 2 minutes flying a complete lap of the island on landing and again on take-off - it is very small.

Correct, just look at Cocos and Christmas Island (Indian Ocean). While you are able to book award flights to these destinations, they must be done over the phone (not shown as bookable destinations online).

With regards to Norfolk Island, you cannot redeem points for an award flight, but are able to earn points when flying on the QF codeshare numbers - Norfolk Air/OzJet are not a QF FF partner.

I have been to NLK, but only spent a few days there (visiting friends). It's very beautiful and quiet, but it's a destination orientated for the mature market. There isn't a night life and there isn't much to do. It's nice, but for the money you spend, you might as well go to somewhere like Fiji, Vanuatu or New Caledonia etc.

Cheers
