Advice - using QFF points ADL - LHR

First time post so sorry if questions are very basic and placed in the wrong area. Have 260K QFF points and wife and I want to fly ADl - LHR March 09 return in May 09. Flying straight through requires 256K. As we are both near 60, this sounds like hell. Is it possible to arrange/pay extra for a stopover break each way? Also, is the 388 plane for QF31, QF32 a A380? Does it offer a more comfortable experience than cattle class in anything else? Appreciate any advice.

Yes, but as 2 seperate rewards flights ADL-BKK and then BKK-LHR
or ADL-HKG and then HKG-LHR
or ADL-SIN and then SIN-LHR.
Reward flights to LHR are difficult to get

Business class, but a lot more points and harder to get

The A388 is the A380-800, often referred to as an A380. Some system still haven't caught this, yet. look here:

One good way requires more 25K points of you but gives far better routing options.

This is to book a QFF classic "oneworld award" at 142500 points each. (Total of 285K)

This provides for up to five stopovers and a greater choice of travel:
e.g.
  • ADL-SIN<stop>
  • SIN-LHR<stop>
  • LHR-FCO{Rome}<stop>
  • FCO-LHR-BKK-<stop>
  • BKK-SIN-ADL

More here (see section 14 with special attention to 14.5):

many thanks guys. I'm cursing having recently wasted 48K in booking an ADL - SYD return. Would have been very handy!
Looks like we hit the vallium. Thanks again.

Dear Wilsonn
just booked a flight for xmas this year for my old man LHR-HGK-MEL. The flight here was booked as multi city as thru flight did not appear on booking engine so he is coming straight thru however he could have stopped for a few days (his choice). Still only 64k one way.

Not true about the extra days. Such routing only works as long as the departure from HKG is not more than 24 hours after the arrival.

24 hours or less counts as a transit, not a stopover so the 'trip' is calculated as LKR-xHKG-MEL with the one point calculation.

If the departure from HKG had been more than 24 hours, it would have been calculated as for two trips, LHR-HKG and HGK-MEL.
