Your Top Travel Events of 2007

Standout events and stories of 2007?

Here's my top 3

1. A380 - First Commercial flight from Sydney (up there with the first 747 flight)

2. Tiger Airways launch - the tiny airline thats scared the "be-jesus" out of Jetstar so much it had to offer 5 cent airfares to get any decent publicity.

3. Jetstar voted worst airline in Australia by Choice magazine readers - this was priceless, especially watching Jetstar's reaction.

Seasons Greetings to all and for traditionalists including myself - Merry Christmas!

This was the key event for me this year - I think the big one for 2008 will be T5 at LHR.

Mine are being quoted in articles about travel, but Dave Noble's will be his BIG STORIES in the AFR today (see Smart Money, Debra Cleveland stories) - here is the link to smaller story. I don't have subscription, so can't access the stories. Page 51 & 52 - should be required reading for all.

Now the AAdvantage story is out there for all to read

AlphaVictor,

Agree with you regarding the first three.

The A380s launch was one of the most significant aviation events in recent memory.

I think (just my personal, extremely uneducated opinion ) the effect Tiger will have on the Aussie market has been pretty understated.
In the short term I think we'll see (or are already seeing) changes in how the airlines operate. JQ has moved from kneejerk reactions to what DJ does to kneejerk reactions to what TT does, whereas DJ keeps movin' on up to to QF's level with the status levels and future Y+ offerings.

And Choice was just stating the obvious.

I'd probably add the DJ developments: Velocity, Y+, and the birth of V Australia.

VAA could be the big thing of 08.
