Re: When Was The First Time You Met Someone You Met From the Internet
I met quite a few ladies from online chat programs like Yahoo Chat!, ICQ, MSN etc around 5-8 years ago. Was often an interesting experience
I think the first time I met any AFF'ers was a QP Meeting in Brisbane in 2006. I've also met quite a few through lounge meetings, combined flight plans, FT social events and recently the AFF meet up in MEL.

You were the second person I met from AFF. It was at ADL airport when it first opened and I was on my way to PER and you were going to the Barossa Valley for the day. That was in early March so must have been a few weeks after the FT AGM in BNE.

Interesting, was this the day ADL opened. I flew out of ADL that day.

Re: When Was The First Time You Met Someone You Met From the Internet
I think I might hold a record here... I've been on the 'net since 1994 and I can't recall meeting ANYONE. Not that I don't think you are not all the greatest bunch of people! I also post on a few other forums (a lot more than here) and I've never met any of those people either. Never really had an opportunity or if I had I couldn't make it to a get-together.
Internet 1994-95
I was a dedicated Mosaic user! I remember watching that icon waiting for pages to load, and waiting, and waiting...
Winsock - another memory. I can't recall the email program but where I worked we had an internal 'email' or instant messaging system called 'Flash' - the message used to arrive and be 'read' in that endearing computer voice.

Sorry - been distracted for the past week.
It was a TV discussion forum - age range from say 17/18 thru 30's. Most of meets involved large amounts of alcohol and consequently for some of the members relationships were formed/not formed/broken etc. Equally everyone got very much involved in people's personal lives, formed alliances etc. etc.
All a bit wearing and as people then interacted more directly the interaction online reduced.
Personally I tend to avoid increasing the interaction that much - for example even those forum members here I interact with on msn I still refer to mrssimongr as mrssimongr even though they have seen the details of a PNR that has full names of all pax travelling...
Ah the joys of teen angst as experienced by people in their 20's...

Re: When Was The First Time You Met Someone You Met From the Internet
First time for me was February 2007 during the FT AGM in BNE. I was in the 'Bronze' category for attending when I realised that my return flight from PER would touch down fairly late and it seemed that as a QFF-NB-no-QC there was no way I was getting in. Or so I thought.
First lesson about FT/AFF: when an event is on, the thread is updated rapidly on that day/previous day. I was checking FT at PER airport awaiting my plane to depart, when I realised someone would guest me in and there would actually be people still there (the last flights would soon be after my arrival, though). So I posted back on the AGM thread at around 12ish PER time, gave a rough description of what I was wearing and told someone to meet me at the arrival gate in BNE with a sign with my user handle on it.
That's when I met the first person from AFF or FT. JohnSydney2000 (FT) and Mal was there holding a printed paper with "Mr anat0l" on it.
Second lesson about FT/AFF: if someone is waiting on you, try to get the most forward seat in the cabin that you possibly can, lest they almost believe you were never on the flight.
I met about half a dozen members in the BNE QC FT corner (I believe including Shillard (FT) and Bundy Bear; goodness help me remember the rest) and had a glass of white + some little nibbles whilst showing off the pilfered little bottle of red wine (Langmeil Shiraz-Grenache-Mourverde) I had pilfered off the plane from free drinks service. Soon after, people had to catch their flights home as well as the last Airtrain, and I hurried to the carousel before someone could start to suspect that my lone bag could possibly be a threat to national security.....

Reason: Found the pilfered bottle - corrected; added Mal as the co-meeter
