Can you imagine the postings about who got what seat and why (hypothetically) did a WP get a middle seat in row 56 when an SG got the aisle etc.
And if it became well known, well imagine the fun if the QF yield management staff got in on the act and arbitrarily assigned people to the seats they had always wanted to, eg the once a year flyer got the exit row while those with status got all the middle seats.
It would be a thread that would last several months at least. Worth doing just for that alone.

I too am watching with interest to see what develops. Could be an interesting Qpub crawl
Pity not much chance for international Flounges .... seems hardly any domestic legs of international flights these days. I used to love taking them, even if it was the 6:40 or whatever it was MEL-SYD since people usually avoided them.
Could you imagine filling an entire DASH-8 ??? now if only charters earnt FF points and were not that expensive !

The biggest problem is establishing a good MR or SC run.
Time was, you could get SC runs for around $7-$8/SC. Not bad for domestic AU. To get better rates you had to go overseas; LAN D runs were the closest to home. Now it's really hard to generate SC runs at home which rate at around $8-$9/SC, and you still think hard whether you want to undertake it or not.
As for MRs, the QFlink promotions ex-SYD were typically the source of these, except that everytime they have the promotions the price gets put back up again to non-MR rates.
How much would some of you be prepared to pay for an SC run (or MR for that matter) in terms of rate, i.e. either A$/SC or miles/A$? Also would you have 'terms', e.g. don't want to go overseas, etc.
Anything under $5/SC is worthwhile.

OT: The most common $5/SC runs available in this area of the world are the regular Jetconnect Sales fares. e.g. AKL-WLG is often available for NZD59. (Current Standard fare is NZD71 - Even that's reasonable)
The winner is still LAN D runs, use lan.com to book separately SYD-AKL and AKL-SYD. About AU$1122 (figuring by exchange rate from xe.com I used as of this post, plus my card charges 2.5% for international currency fee) for 160 SC, which gives a rate of ~$7.012/SC. Even after factoring in SYD postitioning flights, you still easily get a rate less than $8/SC. Of course, as Mal said, flight times are rather ungodly; more suggestive to pulling an all-nighter in AKL or sleeping in AKL airport (very little business case to get a hotel for such a short stay!). Also, lan.com insists on some sort of booking window (I think it must be at least 2 weeks before departure - guess.....)
anat0l,
If you are ever in a position to book this in reverse ie AKL-SYD-AKL then it is a lot cheaper again.
JAL 'C' fares between KUL and SIN are a touch above $200 (actually the fare is less, but by the time agent fees, credit card fees etc, ends up just over), so pretty close to $5/SC. Of course, helps to be in one of those cities and wanting to get to the other

Yeah sure fly over on friday evening and back on Sunday... nice to get out of the country for a while (SIN that is) but have not done it recently and no need of MR since last year i made WP and this year i have enough of my AONE5 left to do it again no issues.
