New routes - tips/ideas/suggestions

Interesting that in the Lionair thread, a quote from the Lion Air spokesperson suggested that they would be looking at new routes.

Quote:
Lion Air Australia’s route network is yet to be defined but we will be connecting points not currently serviced and creating a fantastic new offering for the travelling public
With plenty of new routes coming on line in the last 3 years thanks to DJ, JQ & now TT, I thought it would be a bit of fun to see what others think the routes are that are up for grabs.

I guess it could be divided in three categories, new domestic jet routes (currently for city pairs not serviced by jet services at all), new domestic prop routes & the much broader new international routes.

I can't think of too many off the top of my head (aside from international routes where the scope is endless), but for domestic jet routes, I wonder whether a NTL-PER redeye would provide a good opportunity for a LCC to increase the utilisation of an aircraft. As for props, I just have a wishlist... MEL-BHQ (for personal reasons) and MEL-DBO (for work reasons).

I think you'll see tourist orientated routes being added.

Things like Gold Coast to Uluru or Alice Springs or Darwin or Cairns to Perth etc.

I believe the Gold Coast in particular is going to become a very well utilised airport over the next few years.

I hope we see more flights on the Uluru routes as well. QF have a complete monopoly but tourists seem more than happy to pay the fares. I think a LCC could pick up the backpacker niche.

Maybe SYD-AYQ-CNS-OOL.

As for International, I would love some LCC BNE-ZQN flights in Winter for ski season. (currently operated by QF & NZ but cost is quite expensive)

I think also that we will see new routes from QF as 1) their overall aircraft shortage is relieved and 2) the new aircraft are more efficient and flexible allowing new routes, or previous ones that were dropped re-instated.

Personally I'm really excited about South American international flights, flights to different cities in the US (San Fran was a great first step) and to India. Also JQ flights to secondary European ports.

Re: New routes - tips/ideas/suggestions

How about QF mainline adding a daytime flight to South East Asia from the east coast. Something like SYD-SIN. It does not have to be SYD it can just as easily be BNE/MEL. Arriving early afternoon in SIN giving people time to connect to most parts of SE Asia that night.

Not sure why QF mainline dropped FCO, ATH, AMS, CDG through the years. I am guessing that these routes could still be profitable. How about a SYD-SIN/BKK/KUL-ATH-FCO-SIN/BKK/KUL-SYD flight 3 times a week and a SYD-SIN/BKK/KUL-CDG-AMS-SIN/BKK/KUL-SYD flight 3-4 days a week. I think these flights will be extremely popular giving European destinations other than FRA/LHR and it could even be operated by 3 class aircraft.
